Cap space. They’re going to have problems with it over next couple of years. If rangers were to take Callahan’s contract for next few seasons and give them 2 runs of mcdonagh t could happen.

Yeah but mcdonagh is still an excellent defenseman. It’s not a downgrade or hindering their chances for this year. Sergachev could end up being better in future but if you’re saying win now it’s pretty equal.

Except that doesn’t help them with the Cap at all...
it hurts them
McDonaugh is almost 5mil against the Cap
Sergachev is under 1mil plus whatever bonuses

Also...
by the time Sergachev needs a raise,
Stralman, Girardi & Coburn are all up
That’s over 11mil in room

Tampa is pretty young
They don’t need to “take a run” with McD the next 2 years...
they can take a run over the next 10 with Sergachev

This trade just makes ZERO sense for Tampa sir

Kucherov. Point. Vasilevskiy. Namestnikov. All need raises over next couple of years. Johnson Killorn Callahan palat huge contracts. Plus stamkos and Hedman of course. It makes plenty of sense to make runs at cup now with defenseman who is just as good as sergachev at the moment at the cost of offloading bad contract to sign core pieces.

If you’re gonna use word future remember that you have to pay them.

If Sergachev & McD are “equal” then it’s even more a reason that they in NO WAY do this

Cap will go up

They’re GREAT at getting guys to sign at amazing values

They have guys who are tradable to clear Cap should they need it

The LAST thing they’d do is trade Sergachev NOW

NO FREAKING CHANCE
None

Just using CAPS for emphasis
Let me put it this way...

Would u trade Skjei to get rid of Staal’s contract?
Of course not
You’re building around him

Just like Tampa is with Sergachev
There’s just no way they’re trading him dude

I guess. But Tampa has a lot of other pieces than rangers and are at the stage where they should win cup. Yzerman is going to have to work some magic to keep everyone under cap.
Which knowing him, he will.

He’d find a way to move guys like Palat or Tyler Johnson or whoever to a Cap floor team like Arizona

He’s gonna keep young guys like Sergachev
He’d be crazy not to

some people really don't know the cap. it is not a problem if you too many good players. they can always be traded. teams have a cap problems when they pay players too much and can't trade them. such as girardi...buyout, staal can't be traded, Lundqvist make 15% more than the next highest goal. so you can't compare what might happen to tampa compared to the mess in New York.
