No issues with the EDM trade. Seems a bit much for Shaw considering his contract. But as far as STL...thats their top two prospects...and a minimum of 3 years an ELC for 1.5 years of pacoretty...benn really is a non factor in the trade...and 2 2nds which is what Shaw was for AND those 2nds were indeed low 2nds... Seems like you need to swap the 2018 2nd for a 1st.

So on top of giving stl patches...you want to give them a 1st? Hell no, could get better value for him from other teams and not have to give up any picks in the process. Shaw is having one of his best years and should at least be worth the two 2nd round picks we gave up for him if we retain some. Edm trade is close, Byron is probably worth more like a 2nd and a 5th by himself so adding schlemko would add another lower pick in like a 4th, so maybe Byron and schlemko for a 2nd, 3rd and 7th?

Well Shaw is having a pretty average year. Low 30s high 20s points. Most Habs fans would tell you that his contract is a bit much and as a Hawks fan who has regularly watched him...id agree with the sentiment that his contract is too high. So i dont think he's worth want MB gave. And Yes. Patches at 1.5 years is essentially a rental. I hear ya. 1 more year, but Benn is 100% non factor so remove him. Is patches and Shaw equivalent in picks equal to Thomas and kyrou??? The answer is a pretty clear no. What would to add to get back into a fair trade? This would actually never happen. At the TDL anyway due to MTLs lottery status so make it a year end deal.

Patches for 2 Stanley Cup runs is worth more than Hanzal got as a rental and Benn is a factor as he can bring a low pick and play bottom pairing. Shaw if not for being injured was on pace to have his best season points wise, I'd say he is at least worth two 2nd round picks. As for the patches trade, I'd say stl adds a 1st but they don't have a 2018 first so probably a 2nd in 2018 and a 2nd in 2019 but only if they reach the Stanley Cup finals.

In trading patches for Thomas and Kyrou you are targeting the right guys/position so good job on that aspect. I think, however that Benn is a non factor so I'd take him out of the equation. Having both Thomas and Kyrou would be very nice but i don't think it's possible, as the Blues would be mortgaging the foreseeable future at centre trading them both. I think it should be either Thomas OR Kyrou keep the picks (ideally) or just go with one of the 2 (more realistically). I think if you go like this the trade could work: Pacioretty, 2nd pick (wpg) for Thomas OR Pacioretty for Kyrou. Steep price? maybe. But centers are always valued higher than wingers. What helps is that they are still just kids and Patches is a proven commodity. But hey, what do I know right? Feel free to flame me for this comment
