I like the WPG deal. If Lekhonen only gets a third (I don't think his trade value is higher either), I'd rather keep him.

Drouin vs Lindell not 1 for 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>Fleury>Honka
we may take him but no way his lazy floater style every gets to start as a regular for Claude Julien who's motto is '' you earn your spot , or you lose it '' a motto echoed in the AHL as Claude is the first coach i know if in the past 20 years(if not longer) that has meetings with his AHL Coaches giving them instructions on how he wants the system to mimic Canadiens system at the NHL level . Honka maybe a reclamation project like Kulak that Coach Bouchard in Laval can fine tune and adjust to our system but those are long odds as Honka just doesnt have any Heart
Lindell and Drouin makes sense for both teams
MTL is getting a LD it needs
DAL a top PP team that has depth scoring issues and an aging roster
gets MTL's top PP producer the past couple years .
DAL window with their current core is much smaller then MTL who may like a LD but is been upfront like NYR about building on youth and shedding age each year .
one could argue DAL needs it more
that being said i think if adding Chiarot in helps fill a void they'd have left in their top 4 then that makes sense .
top 6 guy for a top 4 guy
both 24 with lots of potential yet untapped
Lindell's that big heavy player Claude loves so he'll have success here
Drouin with either 1st or 2nd line would be set as DAL top 6 outside Dickinson is pretty awesome</div></div>
yup. I'm with Billy on this one. Good assessment of the deal and asset management for both teams.
HOWEVER, As of right now, Drouin value is lower than it should be (we know whats he's capable of) because of recency bias. I dont think GMs would pay a very high price for him. If he doesnt get his s*** together and keeps on playing like he has recently, MTL will systematically lose any trade involving him. There's always the risk of Drouin finally getting it after the trade and playing to the level he showed he's capable of like a few years ago when he dominated in the playoffs for Tampa. I'm torn here. Part of me says make that deal because it wont ever get better than this, and part of me wants to be patient.

I understand your idea, and agree with it to an extent, but i would personally not trade Byron (such a, wait for it, cap friendly deal) for Neal and would not touch Dion Phaneuf with a 10 foot pole.

the players targeted in the trades might be good fits but seriously, and this applies to all those reading this, putting a bunch of low/mid value assets together will NEVER equate a high value one. Nobody does trades based on volume. Maybe if you're lucky and you get Peter Chiarelli or Mike Millbury drunk but that's about it. Those trades are always hard passes. EVERY team has a bunch of fringe NHLers like Hudon, Reilly. You put some interesting prospects like Brooks but there isn't a single piece that is as nearly as valuable or desirable as Whalstrom or Maata.

Good one, but I agree that the pick should be a first. I'd say considering this year's pick is going to be at the bottom of the round, the first of next year should be in as well

That Pleky deal is as close as it's gonna get in my opinion, so extra points for a realistic trade that leave both teams happy. I'm not hating the Pacioretty trade either... They just need to NOT screw their first round pick, and as of recently things haven't been great in that regard. But hey, not the trade's fault so kudos

That VGK trade is exactly what I want to see. The granlund trade could be a good reclamation project like Dale Weise was a few years ago: give an underperforming guy a fair shot, he takes it and plays solid hockey hockey and give the team vale for a few years.

a late 2nd wouldnt even get them a seat at the big boy table with teams like EDM,CGY,CAR,MIN,CAR and LA linked to the Captain STL has to step it up
LA has Vlardi who's tearing up Jr right now so even if STL offered all this its still likely not enough if an LA offers up a Vlardi or CAR offers up a Rask or Miller (debate there who's going out so Miller can come up or if Miller goes)</div></div>
Friendly word of advice: please structure your sentences a bit better, or use punctuation a bit more, as it's hard to figure out what you're trying to say. Which is a shame, really because it seems like you might have had somewhat of a valid point.
That being said, I'd have to agree that a late 2nd wouldn't cut it.

Indeed. However asking for Thomas AND Kyrou will have the Blues management refuse the offer . It should be just patches for Thomas IMO.

Tell me What you guys think
In trading patches for Thomas and Kyrou you are targeting the right guys/position so good job on that aspect. I think, however that Benn is a non factor so I'd take him out of the equation. Having both Thomas and Kyrou would be very nice but i don't think it's possible, as the Blues would be mortgaging the foreseeable future at centre trading them both. I think it should be either Thomas OR Kyrou keep the picks (ideally) or just go with one of the 2 (more realistically). I think if you go like this the trade could work: Pacioretty, 2nd pick (wpg) for Thomas OR Pacioretty for Kyrou. Steep price? maybe. But centers are always valued higher than wingers. What helps is that they are still just kids and Patches is a proven commodity. But hey, what do I know right? Feel free to flame me for this comment

legit question here: Why on earth would teams trade their 4th round pick for a 5th one for one? What's the logic behind this? it's like trading 1 dollar for 80 cents. there is no upside for the party trading the 4th round pick. why would anybody do that?

FLO rumor
Tippett is indeed a great prospect. And By the way to all those who undervalue Pacioretty, he has been one of the top 5 consistent and productive goal scorers of the past 5 years, has a cap friendly contract (not even 5 mil) AND still has a year left on it. that's massive value.
HOWEVER considering organisational needs, trading Pacioretty for anything else than a center would get you 1- fired and 2-lynched. Look at that center depth. Might be the worst in the league. holy moly is it bad. The should be sponsored by Tim Hortons because every line on that team is the donut line.
It's ok to trade patches, but if you don't get a good centerman, the offensive woes of the team will never stop and you'll be in the same position the next year with less attractive assets to shed in order to get the Center you need.

The Price is Right
Congratulations. Your Arizona trade got me to actually burst out laughing by myself in the office (boss didn't look pleased). People here have to understand that many mid-tier value assets DO NOT equate a High-end asset. It's like saying "Hungry? here's a turd sandwich. No? Here's 5 turd sandwiches. NO?! BUT THERE'S FIVE OF THEM!" Also, why would the Canadiens trade Drouin for an older winger with a lower ceiling talentwise? For the 3rd round pick? Ah, I get it they'll use the pick along with their own 3rd and Shaw for McDavid.
Allright, I don't mean to be a prick I see what you were going for but I just think your evaluation of players and value is off and I have a hard time making sense of the moves proposed here.

As for Tavares, if he’s signing for 9 mill, he easily resigns in New York and that’s done.. Open market signing? He’s gonna sign for an upward of 11.5 mill and he won’t take a discount to be in Montreal
So dim those sparkles</div></div>
exactly. I see the kind of trade you are doing for, and I agree that this is what they need. But the value on MTL's side is comparatively too low. A few middle-of-the-pack players don't equate a good one. I am getting a bit tired of seeing all these rosters where Tavares magically sings for less than market value (12 mil) to magically fix their team. IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. wrap your head around it. When was the last time a star players went to free agency and signed to another team? It just doesn't happen anymore. Tavares will be back with the Islanders, end of story.
