Umm, this is worse than a 1 for 1. Chiarot is 3rd pair D on most teams, he's overpaid and really not worth much, only reason him and Honka are a wash is because he asked for a trade. Lindell carries significantly more value than Drouin.

MTL adds here

Fleury>Honka

we may take him but no way his lazy floater style every gets to start as a regular for Claude Julien who's motto is '' you earn your spot , or you lose it '' a motto echoed in the AHL as Claude is the first coach i know if in the past 20 years(if not longer) that has meetings with his AHL Coaches giving them instructions on how he wants the system to mimic Canadiens system at the NHL level . Honka maybe a reclamation project like Kulak that Coach Bouchard in Laval can fine tune and adjust to our system but those are long odds as Honka just doesnt have any Heart

Lindell and Drouin makes sense for both teams

MTL is getting a LD it needs
DAL a top PP team that has depth scoring issues and an aging roster
gets MTL's top PP producer the past couple years .

DAL window with their current core is much smaller then MTL who may like a LD but is been upfront like NYR about building on youth and shedding age each year .

one could argue DAL needs it more
that being said i think if adding Chiarot in helps fill a void they'd have left in their top 4 then that makes sense .

top 6 guy for a top 4 guy
both 24 with lots of potential yet untapped

Lindell's that big heavy player Claude loves so he'll have success here
Drouin with either 1st or 2nd line would be set as DAL top 6 outside Dickinson is pretty awesome

Just have to take off the picks, but you're always against MTL trade, so for you lets say no pick exchange

to be fair Barrie trade is closer to this trade then i'm comfortable with . (i thought COL paid a high price for Kadri)
younger pieces involved but similar contract term and mostly pending UFA's

Im just realistic, a lot of MTL players are often overrated, and def always carry more value than wingers. Also I literally jsut defended MTl in an offer an hour ago about Risto for Drouin and how it makes zero sense for the Habs

yup. I'm with Billy on this one. Good assessment of the deal and asset management for both teams.
HOWEVER, As of right now, Drouin value is lower than it should be (we know whats he's capable of) because of recency bias. I dont think GMs would pay a very high price for him. If he doesnt get his s*** together and keeps on playing like he has recently, MTL will systematically lose any trade involving him. There's always the risk of Drouin finally getting it after the trade and playing to the level he showed he's capable of like a few years ago when he dominated in the playoffs for Tampa. I'm torn here. Part of me says make that deal because it wont ever get better than this, and part of me wants to be patient.

i think at the end of the day if he's ever traded it will be to COL for Jost a pick(depending on pick maybe another player)
maybe its just wishful thinking watching Mckinnon-Drouin win a Memorial Cup

i think MTL wont sell until they atleast get something they like and Jost was who MTL was gonna take as Per Timmons draft day but Sergachev fell to 9th and we grabbed him similar to how we grabbed Caufield but less dramatic . In COL he has a chance to be a solid 3rd Center in time or middle 6 winger but Drouin would likely be top line so it would be a clear upgrade for them while giving MTL a player we liked from the get go . (i like his style mostly because Gallagher would help him grow his similar style )

As a DAL fan I'd easily decline this. Lindell is by far our best defensive d-man. Absolutely solid. Even DAL coach Montgomery stated that Lindell was probably our most important player during the postseason, playing almost 30 minutes a night, sometimes even more than that. Moving him would create a much bigger hole to the roster than Drouin would fill, and also we have young guys coming to the same slot Drouin would be in, like Robertson and Gurianov.

Drouin is OK value at 5.5m, but teams likely aren't likely to giving up a top 4 Dman , maybe even top 2 Dman, on a nice long contract. Drouin has hardly grabbed the spotlight to be known as # 1 LW despite two seasons in Montreal. Plus Drouin's reputation right or wrong eliminates some suitors.

That's why I send Chiarot the other way, Chiarot is very good defensively, could replace Lindell kindoff. But I respect you opinion

Chiarot is closer to Sekera than Lindell in level. We'd be f*cked if we had Chiarot in the first pair with Klingberg, although DAL would most likely put Heiskanen to that line.

That's what I thought Heiskanen-Klingberg Chiarot-Johns Sekera-Polak/Oleksiak/Fedun/Honka

Aside from the first pair that's one of the weakest defenses of the league.
