New has clearly stated, not going to rebuild. This trade fixes their goaltending and defense problems. Its also gives them hornqvist who wont put up the same numbers as tavares but still produces alot. So all in all islanders gain a stable goalie, build up defense with a slight reduction in offense, give or take 20 or 30 points in production in hornqvist along with two 1sts. Pens free up a lot of cap by doing this too which allows them to sweeten the deal even more by rataining on the defense here.
