I don't personally want to sell Orpik. He plays 20 minutes a night, with 3/5 shifts starting in the defensive zone, and his corsi is about equal to his zone starts in spite of a pretty tough quality of competition. He's an effective stay at home defenseman who makes it possible for Djoos and Orlov to take easier shifts and score a bunch of points.
Between Orpik, Ovechkin, and WIlson, Washington has a pretty tough team, that dishes out a lot of solid checks, and I think that's a decent part of why they've won the first round in each of the last three seasons.
But there are other tough guys available at this deadline and if Carolina wanted to swap Orpik for Slavin with any other combination of whatever, that would open up a ton of cap space for the Caps to add a couple of tough wingers who could score some more goals, at a cost of lots more picks and prospects. If not, no big deal. Orpik's a beast.
Thanks for your feedback.
