Team: 2017-18 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 20, 2018

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Instead of shipping a lot of future pieces, I think the Pens should go for cheaper options. The team has been great and does not need someone huge to come in. I think Plekanec will fit the bill nicely. The team has also been rumoured to get Grabner, someone who can fit the Penguins gamestyle. Finally, Colorado might have interest in Hunwick with all of their defensive injuries. He can come in and fill a top 6 role. He is signed for another 2 years. The Pens would bring in Barberio, who is currently on IR and who is a UFA this summer.

Let me know if these deals are fair.

Like your grabner trade. Colorado may not be inclined to get hunwick, but a 3rd sounds right for him. I don't think they'd be giving us barberio for a 5th either. I'd prefer to keep rowney as an emergency center; also montreal probably wouldn't want him.

Thanks for the feedback. Essentially, I know the Pens want to move Hunwick and I think Colorado might be a team that is interested; he has played there, he is still signed for two more years. Would they take him straight for a pick? I would not be against that, but the Pens will most probably look to add cheap defensive depth elsewhere. As for the Plekanec trade, I had to move some roster players, so I just threw Rowney in. I know that there is no limit after the deadline, but I do not know when it begins to apply, so to be safe, I moved a roster player.

Sincerely doubt that Joe will be giving up picks for guys that'll take younger kids spot on the team. We're still in the process of wanting prospects, not vets. Especially with Makar/Timmins in the pipeline. Our D-corp is actually a bit of a logjam and I don't think he's all that big an upgrade from Barberio anyway, so if I were Joe, it'd be a no.

Do you see the Avalanche having any interest? Even if it is 1 for 1 with a player or a lower pick?

Not really. Two of our starting D (EJ and Lindholm) and Bernier just went onto IR. This isn't a "let's push for the cup" year, this is a "O, we made the playoffs, awesome!" kind of year. Truly don't see us buying, but if we were, it'd be for a top-6 winger. Not a defender.
