For starters, I based this team off of a post I made for the Mock Draft section. The Rangers would get the third overall pick due to research I did.
Key:
L10= Last Ten Games
GR= Games Remaning
•System is based off of 10’s. So taken from a teams last ten (if that stands over the remainder of the season) out of 10’s places. Extra games (21,22,23,24,25) add to a teams potential success. If a teams current last 10 is better than anothers and those teams are within 1-2 points from each other, the team with the worse last 10 drops to that teams place with less points(extra points also effect that aswell but, it didn’t drastically effect this current list). I did not take into account players returning from injury, potential trades, or streaky players. (EX: Rangers will get Kreider back from injury by next week, Canadiens could trade Pac ending up hurting their record, Edmonton could go on a streak with the likes of McDavid and Talbot.)
Trade Deadline:
• Getting rid of Holden was a good start. Now you need to take advantage of other teams needs and ask semi higher pricing for the players you have.
1)Grabner: 1/2nd round pick 18, high end prospect
2)Nash: 1st round pick 18, high end prospect, roster player
Offseason:
•Now that the season is finally over prepare for the draft and resigning key assets
1)Skjei: 5years aav $5,000,000
2)Miller: 4years aav $4,250,000
3)Hayes*: 4years aav $4,000,000 (I personally dont know if we should resign him. I’d like to trade him if the price is right)
4) Vesey: 2years aav 2,750,000
•Then for the UFA’s:
1)Nash: 2years aav $3,000,000
2)Grabner: 2years aav $3,000,000
Draft:
New York Rangers select Filip Zadina
Zadina 3years aav 925,000
Buyouts:
1) Marc Staal- Had to be done
Conclusion: this is a basic setup for next season. If they dont go crazy at the deadline or they somehow start playing fantastic and end up in the playoffs then this all changes. This is likely the current case scenario
So you trade nash and grabner for a handful of picks maybe one roster player then resign them and bring back the same team that can't win now for next year with the intention of what? This is just cycling nonsense. I don't get it.

In my opinion, their coach, defense and injuries are the problem. The core with added young talent can go far. Plus its cheap, low risk contracts. Maybe one doesn’t sign for roster space
Heard that the Preds are no longer interested in Rick Nash They plan on just bringing Eeli Tolvanen up and no way is a pending UFA in Rick Nash netting the Rags a 2018 1st round pick+Dante Fabbro it's probably one or the other not both.
Remove your blue short... Nash NEVER scores over 40 points in the last 3 seasons... 7.8M. cap hit... Be realistic dude!!
Rangers can retain cap, and that money will be off the team’s books after this season anyways so it’s not that big a deal. Nash also isn’t all about points, he’s extremely reliable defensively and his numbers don’t reflect his play this year
