OTT pays 750k more for Letang, but still gets a high end D that will end up being cheaper than EK after his new contract.

PIT loses Letang who yes is a good player, but EK is an upgrade. Also the presence of Ek could motivate the Pens to push even harder to win another cup for EK

Maybe Letang doesn't waive and that's entirely possible. Another possible move is EK for Burns as he only has a 3 team no trade list.

Either way I think Ottawa is better served to trade Karlsson for another elite D instead of futures

I would do the trade in a heartbeat.... but I also doubt letang would waive for OTT.

Hahahahahaha if Ottawa took this deal Id fire Dorion in a minute! Letang is the definition of injury-prone. Why give Pittsburgh Karlsson for that?

I agree that could be an issue. But Letang's name has been in rumours, so he is obviously aware PIT may move him.

And Karlsson for Burns would be even worse. I love the guy, but Burns aint gonna help Ottawa when they need it most, which will be in a few years because they’re rebuilding.

I agree. But he would not want to get to a rebuilding situation, unless it is MTL.
Get a third team involved and flip him for assets.

Agree doesn't make sense for either team...and I'd wait a few years before assessing a trade...too many times people judge how the team is fairing and not the actual player is playing.
