“Hawks fans” might not accept. But Hawks fans might also want to start preparing to get absolutely fleeced when these players dictate a trade for a bag of pucks to wherever they want to play, or refuse a trade and walk for nothing.
Toews likely costs the Hawks to unload for any cap hit at all at this point. Kane could fetch a Giroux return: a floundering prospect and a 1st 3 or 4 years from now if bundled with other C tier prospects.

Are they not? I haven’t read anything suggesting that, and they used to room together on the road for years.

Probably true, except Chicago has no choice because Kane has full trade protection. Much like the crap return for Giroux Chicago is gonna get a very underwhelming return to send Kane exactly where he wants to go.

Pens Lose Lottery and Move Core Piece WIP
I believe if the Pens lose the 2nd draft lotto Minnesota gets their pick. So it’s AL or bust.
Ottawa isn’t going to trade for a goaltender. Our best bet for Murray is a trade with Carolina or Chicago.
I doubt the Pens re-sign Riikola. For some reason the coaches don’t trust him.

Yeah, I’m still working it out. It looks like there’s about a 25% chance a qualifying round team gets one of the top 3, but that they’ll re-draw from the 8 losing teams later to decide which one gets that pick.

Pens 1st is lottery protected. Because they’re in the qualifying round they now have a lotto pick, though it’s like 1%, and I’m not clear if they give up the lotto spot if they beat Montreal.

Galchenyuk is probably a dump but 4 assets for Zucker is a bit high. Pens easily give the rest up for Zucker and try to move other assets with Galchenyuk for a RW.

Most of this is in the Pens version. Blues make out like bandits as the middle man because both Pens and Vegas need them to eat cap in the middle of the deal.

No Trades Pens
I think the most interesting part is that despite a long history of taking D with early picks under Shero the Pens have actually used very few UFA/draftee D to win cups. Most of the team post-2010 is forwards acquired for D prospects and D picked up for a song from other teams.

The 2017 pick went to STL who picked Kostin.
The only one that really hurts is losing Barzal for Perron. Though given the constant use of picks on D the pens probably would’ve taken Chabot. Or they could have Boeser.

EK to Dallas, VAN is middle man
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cartler</b></div><div>They already declined and why would they move Hanzal when it's Spezza they want to shed?</div></div>
Spezza won’t move his NMC to go back to Ottawa, and is a UFA at years end anyway so they’d get that $7.5 towards re-signing the two big contracts anyway.

VAN GM has said no deal, added Dahlen to that list as untouchable. Not sure you can get Karlsson direct without one of Pettersson, Hughes, or Demko being part of the deal.
Probably the right value on Karlsson if the GM was willing

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mk458</b></div><div>What is the point of having to pay to move Ryan's contract??? It's not like Ottawa is a contender and needs the cap space. They've got plenty of cap, and I don't see them attracting and big name free agents next summer anyways. Just keep Ryan, move him in 2 years if you really need to, when its easier and the team is actually good. Is Ottawa really in that bad of a financial situation? Can they not afford to pay him?</div></div>
Ottawa desperately wants to get rid of Ryan’s contract. They said up front last year at the deadline that nobody was getting Karlsson unless they took Ryan. I don’t know if it’s specifically finances or just the owner being a douche but they’re a cap floor team.
Ryan can be a useful player, as can Hanzal if healthy. It seems like Virtanen doesn’t fit in their plans and VAN has said any player that would be part of a direct Karlsson trade is untouchable. Acquiring as many 1sts in the next 2-3 years for anybody who won’t be on the team at that time is advantageous for VAN.

I mean, crap luck for Montreal but Max had a horrible year & is going to a team as a rental, they’re getting a terrible return no matter where they trade him. And with Weber down they HAVE to trade him.

2. you don't have sprong anywhere in the lineup and he cant be sent down this year so he will be RW on one of first 3 lines. Put sprong in.
3. thanks to putting sprong in drop rust to fourth line RW instead of ZAR.
4.Move ZAR to 4LW .
5.in order to save cap space use one of the in-house backups for goalie so that there is almost a million more room.
Other than that I really like the lineup better than signing Johnson for the reported figure.</div></div>
Maatta/Oleksiak were a pair, I think Oleksiak played the RH.
That’s weird, I didn’t take Sprong out of the lineup..
I don’t trust Sprong to give him big minutes, but a 3rd RW & PP time is probably right for him. Maybe Vanek on the top RW & Rust on 3LW?
Jarry needs more play time than being a backup G, and DeSmith isn’t good enough. Better to sign a career backup than to try to trade if Murray gets hurt.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Reeds77</b></div><div>CDH is going to get upwards of 4 million so good luck trying get him for less than 3. Also Scuderi was 4 years older when he resigned with the Pens. I dont understand why 31 is now the new 40 it seems when talking about JJ.</div></div>
I’m fine with Pens going up to $3.5 per on CDH, just have to try a cheaper bottom 6 winger with speed, Reider or Duclair maybe.
Jack Johnson was **** at 21, he’s beet extra **** for the last 3 years or so. He was a healthy scratch in CBJ. He’s not worth a 1 year deal at league minimum, his HERO is worse than Ruhwedel’s...

They might be able to adjust the pick conditional to a re-sign, but he has a limited NMC, they’re not going to get “fair value” in a trade if they do move him.
