I don’t think this is how drafting works. Penguins didn’t have a crystal ball, so my guess is that they would have passed on DeBrincat.

Means no Kessel or Brassard, but I'd be pissed if Pens had Barzal right now lol. Crosby-Malkin-Barzal down the middle. Yikes.

Was thinking the same thing from a different angle, tho. Without Kessel, do they have two straight parades?!

I’m not going to argue this because there is a much more interesting situation going on here.

How can you tell temperament by reading a comment, I assure you that I did not mean to come off as aggressive.

Kessel trade didnt involve those picks, just the 14' (Kapanan) and Brassy was the 18' 1st rdr

Their ‘16 1st among other parts was involved in the Kessel trade.

The 2016 1st was from the Kessel trade. I’ll take Kessel and 2 cups over DeBrincat or Steele any day. (We traded the #30 pick to Toronto for Phil, then they traded it to Anaheim for Freddie Andersen and selected Sam Steele)

well one of those picks was for kessel who I would say was clearly worth it, I believe that explains the 2016 pick. The 2017 one was for reaves I think so that one didn't look too good at the time and still doesn't look that good.

The one that looks REALLY bad is the trade of the 2015 one. Could have had barzal or another very good prospect since the draft was deep and it was one of the highest picks the team would have had in a decade. Also what they gave the pick up for probably was not worth a first in general, I actually had to look it up who they gave it to cause I couldn't remember. It was for perron who is a nice player and all but only spent a year with the team although did help them get hagelin who was a very nice addition.

I think the brassard trade happens regardless of the penguins having reaves but by getting those picks back you would lose kessel and hagelin. Two of the biggest reasons we got the 2016 cup.

Wasn't the 2015 actually traded to EDM for Perron?

Yes, along with Rob Klinkhammer! Edmonton, inexplicably, then traded that 1-15 to NYI for Grif Reinhart. In other words, the Oilers potentially could have drafted McDavid AND Barzal in the same draft. Yikes!

"What If" is a great game and a pleasant interlude from all the serious work we do here on CapFriendly. Uh-oh, the wife is calling . . . something about water breaking . . . I didn't think water was solid . . .

The 2017 pick went to STL who picked Kostin.
The only one that really hurts is losing Barzal for Perron. Though given the constant use of picks on D the pens probably would’ve taken Chabot. Or they could have Boeser.

Had they taken Barzal instead of trading it away probably saves Hall. That center depth would be nasty. McDavid, Drai, Barzal, RNH
