Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 12, 2022
Published: Aug. 12, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Mostly just to show it could be done.
Conditions would be that Toews and Kane only waive NMCs to move together and severely limit where they can go, reducing the return to Chicago. The rest is trying to make some value and the cap work.

CREATEDYEARSCAP HIT
Toews, Jonathan
1$2,625,000
Kane, Patrick
1$2,625,000
Trades
1.
PIT
25% retention of Toews & Kane’s contracts. One 3rd each for $2.5mil, would probably be more but gets AZ some cap for the floor. Ruhwedhl gives them a replacement body for trading Chychrun.
    ARI
    1. Ruhwedel, Chad
    2. 2023 3rd round pick (NJD)
    3. 2024 3rd round pick (PIT)
    2.
    PIT
Toews & Kane traded to AZ at 50% retained, who then retain another 50% and trade to Pittsburgh. Return is low because Chicago has their hands tied by the NMC demands and taking Toews’ contract lowers some of Kane’s value.
      CHI
      1. Zucker, Jason
      2. 2023 1st round pick (PIT)
      Additional Details:
Zuck has to go to be cap compliant, can be a trade asset at the deadline if he can play healthy in Chicago.

Kane and Toews are not exactly best buds so the chance of them saying, they will only waive together to the same team, has less then 1% probability.

Are they not? I haven’t read anything suggesting that, and they used to room together on the road for years.

“Hawks fans” might not accept. But Hawks fans might also want to start preparing to get absolutely fleeced when these players dictate a trade for a bag of pucks to wherever they want to play, or refuse a trade and walk for nothing.
Toews likely costs the Hawks to unload for any cap hit at all at this point. Kane could fetch a Giroux return: a floundering prospect and a 1st 3 or 4 years from now if bundled with other C tier prospects.

Kane is a lot better than giroux. Toews' play this season will ultimately determine his value. He was starting to look like himself towards the end of last season. They're both extremely loyal players. Can't see them screwing over the team by only giving 1 trade destination. And there's zero chance the hawks take your insult of an offer. Toews and Kane want to go to a contender. Not a retirement home that the Pens are for the next 4 years.

They are not. They don't spend much time together off the ice at all, and haven't room together in a decade
