OTT - EDM

Description
Since Colorado has Ottawa's 1st in 2019 (assuming Ottawa keeps this year's pick), Ottawa is looking to "re-tool" as there's no benefit from tanking next season. These deals try to increase offense from forwards and defense from dmen, essentially re-balancing the roster after it has relied on Karlsson for offense the past 5-6 years. The trades also focus on getting younger and adding picks for a potential full rebuild in 2020, and cuts future salary. I kept Ryan's salary as I didn't want to devalue a Karlsson trade, and I didn't buy him out since the team could afford to keep him a while a longer to reduce the years of dead cap space by buying him out later. He's also a capable player when healthy and could help the sense avoid a bottom 10 finish.

Winnipeg trade:

WIN gets a young right-handed top 4 dman and a gritty forward to handle Western conference playoff opponents.

OTT gets a decent aged veteran dman, a right-handed B-prospect dman and a young bottom 6 agitator for the "re-tool".

OTT gets a 2nd round pick to offset Ceci's age, RFA status and "potential" with Kulikov. WIN gets a 7th as minor sweetener. OTT saves money once Ceci's new RFA contract is signed with Winnipeg.

Edmonton trade:

Ottawa needs a solid young dman to play and build on with Chabot, as well as two scoring threats in their top 9.

Edmonton gets their much needed franchise dman (they've been waiting a while since Pronger left). Burrows is an agitator for the playoffs, but more of a salary dump.

Ottawa gets a centre to slot behind Duchene, a young forward with 1st/2nd line potential who can provide secondary scoring on the 3rd line, a B/C level dman prospect, and a first round pick (two first rounders if Karlsson re-signs). This helps balance their roster for next season, while giving opportunities for some of their younger players (Brown, White, Chlapik, etc.) to make the big club.

I hope Chiarelli is not dumb enough to take that trade. No trade from Edmonton is including McDavid, Nurse or Draisaitl.

Wow, that's a ridiculous idea for Edmonton. What do you think Karlsson is anyhow??

That's an overpayment for Karlsson, even if he was re-signed. Yikes!

Also, Winnipeg already has Byfuglien, Trouba, and Myers on the right side, and Ceci is awful, so that's probably a non-starter.
