Penguins still a "win now" team

Created by: LetsTalkNHL
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 13, 2018
Published: Mar. 13, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Penguins have said that they are going all out now. They will continue to go hard for the next couple of seasons.

If they really want to go all out, they can move all 3 of Hagelin, Sheary and Hunwick and clear 9.25M of cap space, although it is unlikely. If it does happen, imagine them signing another top 6 guy like Kovalchuk, JVR or Neal (if all UFAs), and telling them to sign short term. It allows the Pens to not struggle too much on cap, and allows the player to join an offensive juggernaut. They also sign a cheap RHD. Wideman will probably resign with Ottawa, but other players like Sustr, Schenn, Pateryn or Folin might make sense.

Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Megna, Jaycob
  2. 2019 5th round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
Penguins acquire an AHL defenseman who can play in the NHL if injuries are present. Pens also get a 5th.
ANA
  1. Hunwick, Matt
  2. Sheary, Conor
Additional Details:
Anaheim adds a top 9 forward and a 6/7 defenseman since Beauchemin is retiring and Bieksa's future might not be with the Ducks. Holzer has been sent down a while ago so they might not trust him too much.
2.
PIT
  1. 2019 4th round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
Pens shed cap and get a 4th.
*EDITED TEAM*
VGK
  1. Hagelin, Carl
Additional Details:
With Hagelin on his last year of his contract, some teams might want to acquire him. At the deadline, they would be able to retain and move him for more if they want to. If in a playoff position, he can definitely help.

If other teams will want Hagelin, why would Arizona take him? They wouldn't give you a pick just to flip him, unless someone gives them a 3rd (which I doubt).

For some reason, I feel like Hagelin would be on Vegas' radar. They are stacked with picks, he is a speedy guy, they have cap and I just feel like he would fit there. Would that make more sense?

I think they would want someone more talented, to be honest. Hagelin isn't really the guy that would get them over the top.

Do you see anyone wanting Hagelin?

Yes I do. He has one year left and is very good defensively, very fast, and can chip in offensively. He may not have any trade value but he’s certainly not “untradeable”

I agree. What do you think about the rest of the trades?

I personally wouldn’t give up on sheary this quick. He was great last season. Players have off years. If he struggles next season then I’m all for trading him but I’d like pens to keep him for now
