Detroit probably wouldn't trade up unless its a deal that gets them Svechnikov. Boquist would be nice but I think they would take either Hughes or Bouchard if hes not available.

Veleno is absolutely not going sixth. You'd probably get Wahlstrom, Hughes or Bouchard around that spot. Veleno is more in the 10-15 range.

Agreed. Habs would probably want to try the fliparoo with the Islanders for one of their low-teen picks and get Dal Colle or Ho Sang in the process. Valeno also won't be ready for primetime next season, so either bring Poehling into the mix or re-sign Pleks for 1-2 years and give the kids time to make the jump.

Hi Mike, the thing I liked most on these trades is your comment "Trade to anyone for anything".

laugh FWIW Detroit already owns the #5 overall pick Montreal has the #6 overall pick, So how does this help Detroit again. Besides DET wont trade up for 1 spot unless it's either #2 Svechnikov or #3 Zadina Detroit in fact could trade down just to get the extra pick instead.

Interesting idea. In all honesty, if the Habs finish out of the top 5 in the draft, i think should trade down to past the 10th pick and draft Veleno/or one of the other centerman available too.

A couple of points on Tavares
1 - there are other teams that can afford that cap hit that are closer to playoff-bound or cup contenders than the habs. Plus with the taxes, I think you need to up the ante. You have the cap space (plus projected to raise to 80M), so why not use it and throw Tavares a 15M/year offer?
2 - there's no way JT makes it to free agency. Snow will trade his rights away at the draft (with prior consultation to assure a contract is signed) to a team (like the habs) and he'll demand a kings ransom for that - expect a 1st, 2nd, roster player and prospect (around those lines). There are some here who think that a draft day deal for Tavares' rights will be cheaper - but no team is going to want to give up anything for his rights unless they're able to talk to him first and have a verbal agreement in place - and that's going to cost.

These two points being said - if JT reaches that far - I say the habs throw EVERYTHING they can to get the guy.

Lastly, with that sort of cap space - why not also go after DeHaan and really put the screw to Snow wink

Hey laughing Larky... you know that there is a draw before the draft... this example was if Mtl jump to spot No#3-4-5... and Destroit backup to the 7-8-9 spot! Anything possible.

If Montreal stays where they're at, There's no way they can pick in the #4 or #5 range and Detroit could wind up losing the rest of their games this season. So the Wings finishing in the #7-9 range isn't happening Detroit probably finishes #28 or #29 overall by the end of the season.
