Also if you look at it you don’t (and really can’t) put Hossa on for the maximum relief if you are under the salary cap with his contract. I believe Chicago will move Hossa this offseason because he only gets paid 1 million dollars and that’s a nice big cap hit for a team like Vegas or Arizona that needs to reach the floor.

That's the problem with Edmonton, they think they can just draft themselves a Stanley Cup, lol. Not gonna happen!

Anisimov is a skilled center and just as productive, he also makes 2 mill less.

Anisimov and a pair of 3rds for RNH is pretty fair.

It's funny, obviously what Edmonton has isn't working - so what is the solution to that? do nothing. Oh right, Edmonton did do something - they traded Taylor Hall and he's going to maybe win a Hart while the Oilers will end up with a lottery pick for the 8th time in the past decade.

There are only 2 players on the Oilers they should keep and they're McDavid & Draisaitl - everyone else should be traded over the next 2-3 years. Heck they should have a firesale this summer......Of course they wont because Edmonton collects top picks like hockey fans collect their hockey cards.

It's odd to say this but the Oilers need to rebuild their rebuild...

Factor in contracts and RNH is worth as much as Anisimov.....

If it matters, Seabrook is a defenseman and he puts up similar points to RNH and only makes 875k more.

Stan Bowman can go 10% over the salary cap if Hossa is going on LTIR to start the season... Obviously Bowman can only use 5.275 million because that's Hossa's cap hit.... So, with the cap at 82 Bowman could spend to 87.275 million this summer, then once the season starts Hossa goes on LTIR hence the Hawks cap status drops back down to 82..

Third, when can teams exceed the Upper Limit?

From the last day of training camp until June 30, the only time teams may exceed the Upper Limit is if a player is placed on the LTIR (Ian Laperriere for example) and replacing the player would put the team over the Upper Limit. The team can replace the injured player with a player with a salary that is lower or equal to that of the injured player. In addition, from July 1 to the last day of training camp, teams may exceed the Upper Limit by no more than 10%.

I understand how LTIR and cap work.My point was that this roster never goes above cap so technically no relief would be given. Also your figures are off, the cap probably goes up by about 3% if that a year so it’s going to be closer to 78 million this year it’s about 75 unless you mean Canadian dollars. Additionally it is usually better for teams to stay under the cap by as much as possible so that players reaching bonsuses does not cause them to incur penalties against future cap.

Edited Mar. 25, 2018 at 2:38 p.m.. Reason: Also probably have to add duclair or hinostroza to edm deal so Mcdavid has a fast winger with him
swap getting john moore for John Carlson and then its the luckiest offseason

No, what I just showed is that Hossa's contract isn't an issue and isn't stopping Bowman from signing UFA's come July 1st considering Bowman can go 10% over the cap ceiling then place Hossa on LTIR to get under the cap when the season starts - which is exactly what Bowman will do and what many GM's have already done....

I mean most teams don't dump their LTIR contracts because those contracts are handcuffing them from a cap perspective - they dump those contracts because they don't want to pay these players $$$$$ to be injured, and teams like Arizona have no problem taking these players on if they get paid with assets (prospects/picks) to do it...

Hossa's contract is not an issue because he only makes 1 million and like I said previously - his cap hit is moot so IF Hossa is traded it will be for assets because Hossa's cap hit is an asset to a team looking to circumvent the salary cap floor..

It's going to be interesting to see just how much a team will pay to circumvent the cap by $4.275 million in salary... My guess is Hossa will get a 2nd, but of course that's only if Hossa is "unofficially retired". It's doubtful but if Hossa thinks he can return I see the Hawks holding onto him... Either way Hossa is still an asset to the Hawks if he's unofficially retired or not...
