Ottawa Senators Rebuild

Created by: FryesLeapMaine
Team: 2018-19 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 4, 2018
Published: Apr. 4, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is Transitional downgrades / retooling that translates to a younger squad. Some young players have to step up, but I think this roster can compete to be around the 10th worst team so the pick they have to surrender doesn't hurt them as much.

*&*&*&* Everyone is resigned in this mock by their new team, I apologize for not specifying everything in each trade, but no team loses the player they acquired in this scenario.

I am not an Ottawa fan, but lmk what you think.

Trades
1.
OTT
  1. Benson, Tyler
  2. Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan
Additional Details:
2018 1st Edmonton (RHD Evan Bouchard or RHD Noah Dobson)
RFA Matthew Benning

Ottawa gets a package centered around both RNH + the top 10 1st. Benning is an NHL defender and Benson is an A- prospect. I believe this trade helps both teams.
EDM
  1. Karlsson, Erik
Additional Details:
Edmonton gets their #1 RHD they've needed. Karlsson signs an 8 year 11M deal starting 2019 which gives Edmonton plenty of time to accommodate that number. They give up a guy who's been on the block by their fan base in order to upgrade.
2.
OTT
  1. Crouse, Lawson
  2. Dvorak, Christian
  3. 2019 1st round pick (ARI)
  4. 2020 2nd round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Ottawa gets a solid top 9 Center and a Physical LW prospect. Both should be in the NHL next season. The picks likely move closer to #20 than 1 after this trade, but it's still quality (top 50) prospects.
ARI
  1. Duchene, Matt
Additional Details:
Arizona made a push to compete last season with the additions of Stepan and Hjalmarsson. It didn't work but I don't think GM John Chayka will stop trying. If he keeps finishing in the top 10 of the lottery he'll eventually get fired. I think they'd prefer to not move Dvorak, but Chayka can't afford to be choosey at this point.
3.
OTT
  1. Larsson, Jacob
  2. Silfverberg, Jakob
  3. 2019 1st round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
Ottawa downgrades from Hoffman, but gets a competent LW replacement. Larsson is a good LHD prospect which Ottawa desperately needs and the pick will help too.
ANA
  1. Hoffman, Mike
Additional Details:
Anaheim pushes for a LW scoring upgrade. They give up a lesser LW + a D prospect, which they have plenty to spare and a late 1st rounder. The upgrade would make them more of a threat.
4.
OTT
  1. 2019 3rd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
2018 2nd Round Pick Car: RW Martin Kaut

Ottawa sells Dzingel because they have no room for him in the top 9. They get a high skilled RW prospect and a future 3rd.
CAR
  1. Dzingel, Ryan
Additional Details:
Carolina needs more talent at forward. They've got a solid group but just need either a #1 C or some quality depth pieces. I'm assuming they miss out on a #1 C for the umpteenth time and decide to go with a cheaper option like Dzingel.

Ok, decent team. Dzingel is worth at least a mid 1st and 3rd and please get rid of Gaborik tho.

Looks like a good rebuild team, IMO I would focus on trading Zach Smith, Silfverberg again seeing as he is got 1 year remaining on his contract. I would also trade Tom Pyatt as a rental and I would try extremely hard to get rid of Bobby Ryan's big contract.

i like the edmonton deal but the arizone deal is a no go with 1 year on duchene contract he is essentially a rental in retrospect and his value is not nearly as high as they make it seem dvorak and a 1st would be possible return as dvorak is a great nhl ready prospect and maybe a 3rd 2018. the 2019 first will be a relatively low pick along the lines of 10-20 thats if they do good because they had high expectations entering this year.

Everyone gets extensions. I posted that in my description. but I should have put it at the top. Everyone gets resigned by their respective teams so the value changes a bit.
Missouri liked this.

for his age and point production i can see him at most worth a 2nd and 3rd he is essentially a 3rd liner.

Just to add on this, my idea was Silfverberg gets a 4.5M x 4Year extension from Ottawa.

My entire goal in this was to keep the team competitive since they don't own the 2019 1st after taking Zadina.

Ok, ya that is a fair looking price tag.
