Massive upgrades to forward depth

Created by: rbcf

Description
Here is a cup contending team! James Neal on the top line with Gaudreau and Monahan would be dynamite, although the contract may hurt in a couple years time. (Future Flames problem) Vanek who has terrible possession numbers playing with 2 great possession players should be perfect and on a 1-year contract could be traded at seasons end if it fails and will give space for Tkachuk’s new contract for the following season. 3rd line would be 10x better than last years with van Riemsdyk and Domi on the wings. 4th line centred by play driver Shore and Frolik would help Mangiapane start putting on some points and he could move up in the lineups if needed and when injuries occur. On defence replacing Brodie with De Haan should be an upgrade defensively but not in points however. Altough since we seem to use the 4 forwards 1 defenceman this will be just fine with the new forward depth. Getting Grubauer would solidify the goaltending now and in the future. I think a power forward that can score 20 and a blue-chip defensive prospect plus Rittich should get it done. Domi might want more but I feel that Neal and Riemsdyk are reasonable.

Just fire Dave Cameron and hire anybody that knows anything about hockey to run the powerplay......... They can't be worse than Cameron.

Max Domi is not worth both Brodie and Bennett, you could get a lot more in return for those two. Also with the moves you've made it'll be really difficult to fit tkachuk's raise under the cap the following year.

I think Domi has huge potential and has already put up some good seasons. Brodie has not been too great and Bennett well has just flopped on his face..... Smith and Vanek come off the books the following season leaving more than enough to sign Tkachuk to whatever contract is needed.

About the worse reason to make a trade. "He's a local boy" and "they have cap space". Lot better ways to spend money for the Canucks than Brouwer.

Flames would be paying draft picks and or prospects to take on his cap. The BC connection is only a bonus for Brouwer. Vancouver could buy him out and get some cap space back if its really needed but still take the assets, no?

No the picks are meaningless. Cap space is more important...then get you player you really want. How about the Flames taking Ericsson and the Canucks throw in 4th and 5th round pick? Of course not from the Flames.

Cap Space is only meaningful if you are going to use it. Does Vancouver think they can buy a contender/playoff team through UFA? If so then your right it does not make sense to take on bad contracts for picks. But if they are thinking long term and will not use it why would you not try and get assests that could make your team better down the road? I know if the Flames were in the Canucks position I would take on many bad contracts and pile up the picks and prospects and draft top 5 in the next 2-3 seasons.

That's exactly the comment I was going to look for a tactful way to write about Calgary. Whoops. Missed that boat.

I've seen teams pencilling in Neal at 6, JVR at 7.5, DeHaan at 4, but on so many teams it's starting to look unrealistic, and Grubauer at 4. You might be a little higher on Vanek than some, but his goal last night was pretty good.

I have yet to see a Caps fan express interest in Rittich. Seems kinda pricey for the ECHL.

Caps pass. Whichever goalie they likely trade this offseason, they can get a better offer than Ferland, fox, & rittich. Caps don't really have use for any of them.
