Trading ROR straight up for Patches does not work for me or the Sabres. ROR has term remaining where as Patches has 1 year left and the Sabres will still stink. I just do not see how the Sabres would entice Patches to sign as a UFA after 2018/2019.

Montreal would have to give the Sabres more than just Patches.

If that were the case it would have to be something like a 2nd-3rd round pick or a fringe prospect. I agree that the term is risky for Buffalo but on the ice this works out pretty well for both teams.

Theres gotta be 10 ror to montreal proposals a day. Some are short on value, some are short on fit, most are short on both. I cant see him going to montreal. "Hey, we want your guy to be our #1 center, and heres some vets that dont fit your timeline, our 7th or 8th best prospects, if its a first its not this year, and maybe a cap dump because hes overpaid. And you should do it because the value on paper is fair. Our scouts say so".

I mean, I don't think I'm offering garbage here, am I? I think Pacioretty would be a great fit in Buffalo and if the habs have to sweeten the pot a bit because of term, then fine by me.

To be fair, we probably need a third team. I get that you guys can use ror, hes probably the most likely center that you can shake free that can provide #1 center play, or at the very least provide solid play whenever hes on the ice. We need to get assets back that make sense. A third team that fits patches window better and would give buffalo a better return is probably needed. Our needs are legit top 4 d, preferably puck movers that are decent skaters, preferably rhd. We need speed on the wings, but its a lesser need that can be filled outside of this. If we are talking about picks or prospects, they have to be solid, 2nd and 3rd round picks and b prospects that need development arent appealing here, ror is not just a guy, and the villagers have torches and pitchforks here, something has to come back very soon. Thats just how it looks from here. Frankly im kinda shocked patches didnt get a solid package from a contender at the deadline.
