Description
So I don't think the oilers are going to be able to make a big splash in the UFA market they just dont have the appeal to UFA's as other markets (i.e destination, recent winning history, long term money).

I do think they may be able to make some trade for a top 9 winger without blowing up the team. i have made the trade for Vesey due to the fact that New York is abviously in a rebuild situation and may be open to trading for a similar player with an addition of a draft pick. I like a player like Vesey who has shown the ability to score but has been used in a bottom six role in New York. He definitely has a higher ceiling, especially compared to Caggiula. I expect them to start Lucic in the top six but if Lucic is not able to have a bounce back season i think Vesey provides more depth than say Caggiula and would be better suited to move up the lineup like i have him below.

I do think that Kassian needs to go due to the fact that he has played himself onto the fourth line and is being paid too much for that position.

there is obviously cap room to bring in some more depth on the right side which i do think the oilers need. Like i said i dont think they will be able to bring in someone through free agency but they can make a trade by using a draft pick(s) or i would say that Benning may be a defenceman who can be added in to provide some value. I didnt make the trade because I could not think of who they may target. WOULD LIKE SOME INPUT ON WHO THEY MAY TRADE FOR.

Interesting vessey could be alright. You think they bridge nurse or long term sign him ? Bridge two years at 2.85 mill a yest or long term let's say 6 x 4.167 mill a year

I think they will do a bridge contract. That being said, i am not opposed to the long term deal at the 4.167. Whether Nurse would accept that would be the big question.

Yeah I feel ya with cap going up that 4.167 deal you see with Larsson an klef wpild equal out to 5 mill or more now an with the big three contracts lucic Russell and sekera one or two will need to be moved and I'm scared it's going to cost a lot to move lucic. With how sekera plays this new season will end up showing whether we can move him or not an personally I dont mind Russell if only he was signed to let's say 3 years x 2.25 a year but not 4 x 4 even though it's a front loaded contract it's a whack one at that

that is another reason why the bridge deal works too. By the time that it will expire both Russell and Sekera will be trade-able as there no move clause requires them to provide a 15 team list by then. whether or not the oilers would have to retain salary would be the issue. Lucic will be a tougher contract to move but hopefully the cap increases each year in the coming years which will reduce the impact.

What about trading draft pick(s) and probably a prospect for a guy like Gustav Nyquist. He has one more year on his contract and detroit has had some cap issues which they may be willing to let him go.??? Could put him on the line with Draisaitl. (if we end up drafting a defensive prospect in the first round, a player like Caleb Jones could be a player who could be moved.)

so you think Kassian makes to much money so you trade him to Pittsburg. if you have cap room why not pay nurse more especially since he looks like an long time nhler, maybe even some of the other rfas.
I wouldn't make a any long term ufa signing since there are so few available or even make unnecessary trades which takes away from the future depth.

Not bad. I’d use the cap space to get better better players in the bottom six (Reilly Nash, Derek Ryan, etc.) though.

We also need a better backup goalie.
