Description
What's in it for Montreal?

If there's ever a dravt where MTL picks up multiple first rounders, this is the one. Montreal would love one of Veleno/Hayton, but they need to go BPA, which is most likely Zadina.

Why would this trade benefit NYI?

Simply put, this trade would give the NYI one of the deadliest offences in the league. The addition of Pacioretty in the top 6, and Shaw on the 3rd, fits all too snugly into their talented roster. An example of the offensive lineup, if they we're to resign Tavares :

Lee - Tavares - Bailey
Pacioretty - Barzal - Eberle
Beauvillier - Nelson - Shaw
Johnston - Cizikas - Clutterbuck/Ho-Sang

That's a pretty fuckin' scary offence.

The addition of Juulsen is also much apreciated. You have to realize NYI has the WORST D in the league. A big hit to MTL, Juulsen wont fix NYI's defence, but it will welcomely boost their D, and he will fit nicely in the 2nd line. He is very responsible with the puck, rarely makes turnovers and is on the cusp of being a regular.

Leddy - Seidenberg
Hickey - Juulsen
Pelech - Pulock

While not as deep as LAK or NSH, this Dcore is still instantly better then last season.

Elephant in the room?

Two first rounders. both 10th/11th respectively. Pacioretty is worth one of those. But is Shaw/Juulsen worth another first as well? On any other team, we would say no. But with defence as abysmal as NYI, they would kill for a solid young prospect like Juulsen.

This is an important year for both teams, but for different reasons. Montreal is looking to restock their prospect pool, NYI to prove to Tavares they can at the very least be a playoff team.

This trade will hurt both teams, but I think this trade would turn sweet, rather then sour.

Le canadien va échanger Max Pacioretty contre un centre numéro 1 (si le canadien décide d'échanger Max Pacioretty) et Noah Juulsen est un bon espoir et le canadien ne va pas l'échanger

Max should get you those picks by himself, not with another roster player and a potential top four young dman

I think that might be getting greedy. For months on these boards, Max (re-signed) has been the anchor to any deal involving these picks, but there was usually a second pick or a player (sometimes Carr) . Certainly Shaw and Juulsen is too much, but if the Habs covet players in that group in the 8-15 space, then it's worth doing.

1) not sure BYI get all these big contracts at the expense of 11/12
2) I like it but it feels incomplete, I would have loved to see what you do with the picks.
3) Assuming trade did go thru, I'm thinking Zadina at #3, then I try and move the NYI picks to move up the draft see how high the 2 picks would get you, 5-6-7-8? or could you package 3-11-12 to move to 1st? there's no LD or C in the 3-5 range so can you move to where you wanna pick and add assets?

Juulsen is too much for that trade. Max and Shaw should be enough... add a mid round pick if need be

I don't see a scenario where any of the teams in 5-8 would want to move down. Maybe Vancouver wants to add more selections? But their prospect pool is already deep and they probably want the more skilled player. With the 11th and 12th overall, hope that Kotkaniemi is still there, and take Hayton or Veleno.

Patches doesn’t solve the Islanders problem nor does another over paid bottom 6er and a decent d prospect. Those picks should be used to either : Aquire a young cost controlled LHD or off bad contracts such as Clutterbuck and Ladd.

Patches will require a new deal eating up cap. Lee needs a new deal after this year. Beau is hitting RFA. Barzal a year after that. One of those guys would lost after this trade. All of whom I would take of over patches, who is about to be on the wrong side of 30.
