Who I think the Oilers draft. (With explanation)

Description
I think the Oilers should draft Veleno. From what we have seen in Pittsburgh and Anaheim centre depth is the most important thing in the playoffs. McDavid gets waved out, here comes Nuge to take the draw. Draisaitl gets waved out Yamamoto can come in (plays wing but has experience at centre) Now Strome gets waved out Veleno comes in. Veleno in my opinion if he has a good summer *could* be NHL ready. He was granted exceptional status at 15 and although he had a slow season, this year he really picked it up at the end. Of course I could be wrong because who knows what potato, sorry I meant chiarelli is thinking. Stupid spell check.

I don't disagree with the pick, but don't follow your logic. Generally there are just one centre on the ice at a time, so the best thing centres can do....don't get tossed out of the face-off.

The priority should really be on one of the skilled RHD should one of them be available at #10. Unless the Oilers are dropping a Brinks truck of cash in front of Carlson this offseason, that'll be the only way they find their #1 defenseman.

If none of the RHD are available, I'd look at some of the LHD (like Smith) and consider moving some of our LHD prospects for a righty. Yes the forward depth on this team is beyond abysmal but the team cannot wish to contend with this blueline. Either an immediate or down the road solution is sorely needed.

I'd rather see them trade the pick before picking a forward, but Veleno is not the worst choice that could be made at #10. I do like that he had such high pedigree prior to this season: he played on a bad team and it sunk his ranking. With some dedication it's a safe bet to see him return to form. Veleno or Kotkaniemi would be great picks there. If Chiapete is more interested in Noel or Farabee, I'd prefer to see him trade the pick down. Maybe see if Philly wants to upgrade their two firsts to a top-10 pick and like a 2nd.

Have them play the wing

They need a puck moving (at the very least very skilled two-way) defensemen more than forwards. You could always sign a depth centerman like Riley Nash or even a guy like Kyle Brodziak to help with draws. Drafting forward after forward hasn't helped the Oilers thus far and you know what they say about doing the same thing over again and getting the same results...
