even if it means getting rid of hossa's contract, i would not trade a #8 pick and another 1st for pacioretty.

No way is Patches worth 2 1st round picks. Hossa isn't a problem for the Hawks, you can LITR him and his cost is only $1m in salary. A team like AZ would love to has his contract to reach the cap minimum. In other words, Mtl isn't doing the hawks any favor taking the contract so it boils down to two 1st round picks for Patches which is borderline nuts.

I would be hesitant to trade the #27 pick for Patches straight up. That is a huge overpayment.

The other thing to consider is where do you slot Saad, Debrincat, and Patches on the wing? On the surface, it looks like someone will either get demoted to the third line or play out of their natural position.
