A young top-6 forward and a young top-4 defenceman for a year's worth of EOL? Absolutely not

Why not Calvin De Haan? Injury issues but you get to keep a top 4 guy in butcher and another young guy exceeding expectations in bratt. CDH will cost you around the price of Cole, probably less imo.

Devils need a number 1 D man, I'd rather have OEL without Bratt. Butcher also didnt play top 4 last year so I'm not sure why people think he is a top 4 defenseman. He is a bottom pair, PP specialist who is a good player to have but I'd rather trade him why his value is high to get a number 1 guy.

I like the Cole signing, not so much the Maroon AAV. I would only do the trade if it was guaranteed that OEL signed upon arrival. Also, Butcher was a rookie playing sheltered minutes and did very well with them. I think everyone, including Shero and Hynes, expect him to step up into a top 4 role very soon. Especially with Greene declining, Butcher is going to get a lot more playtime.

I'm assuming OEL signing would be the case. I like Butcher, but he is not a top 4 guy, doesn't have the quickness to make up for his lack of size. He is slow in the d zone and was more than sheltered in his rookie season.

Will Butcher was not a top 4 defenseman on a weak D core last year so saying he is a top 4 defenseman is incorrect
