Wilde and a first seems like a bit of an overpay for a guy with 1YR left and UFA status (even as an in division), but I do absolutely love that lineup so I could get used to this.

HEY LAUDAN
That would be a cool trade. I understand from some articles he's more ready than Bellows and very likely more ready than Wahlstrom as well (I hear he's never lost the talent but was not utilized well in his NHL time + was given limited minutes).

Gusev and Dzingel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ArmChairArtie</b></div><div>If Vegas (who clearly have seen him play more than anyone) thinks he’s worth the risk? Why isn’t he a priority?
If Vegas wanted him at 2 million why should we give him 4???
Sorry, It’s someone else’s hype...
Billing this kid as the-next-could-be-maybe-Panarin... Isn’t fair either.
Nigel Dawes was the #2 scorer. A 33 yr old former Ranger.
Nail Yakupov finally scored 20 goals in the same KHL...
There are some exceptions, but I trust Vegas scouts over anyone’s opinion.
I’ll pass.
THERE IS NO WAY ON GOD’S GREEN EARTH WILL I BE TRADING DOBSON OR WAHLSTROM FOR GUSEV.</div></div>
At no point did I even slightly suggest that Wahlstrom or Dobson should be sent to Vegas. Also, Vegas' scouts clearly liked him enough to tell GMGM to sign him in the middle of a playoff series. The bottom line is: Vegas is a team with a ton of chemistry in their top 6, values that, and also didn't expect Gusev to command a ton in RFA. They wanted the bridge (FWIW, Sorokin is also going to get this "bridge" deal if he ever comes over from CSKA). That's why he's on the block and that's why he's not going to be a Golden Knight. And we're really comparing this guy to Yakupov? and Dawes? When did they have the same international success Gusev had? Maybe world Junior's against U18 kids? Maybe it is unfair to say panarin, but there's definitely a reason as to why he's the most hyped up KHL player coming over as a FA in quite some time.

Picks are meaningless if you cant draft well
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>joshelkin</b></div><div>Responded already before the edit. Sorry if that comes off as too sharp. But God I hope so.</div></div>
Could've phrased it without the negativity, which is why i redacted it. Generally speaking, I'm also pretty hopeful about the cap increase/outlook in the next few years + hopeful we move the bad ones out. And also, I really only think it's that next 1.5 years of cap management that could help or hurt us. After that, everything is pretty much term'd and stable and, quite honestly, if all goes to plan, I think that's our window. If Lou can make marner work without losing a core player, let's roll.

I actually couldn't tell you if that's a bad trade for Gusev or not because there is some risk involved (He's a great player, but there is risk). With that said, I just feel like a team would offer sheet him for 4.2 so that they only have to give up a 2nd rounder for him instead of a conglomeration of picks/prospects.

Pagnotta Marner OS Report
The thing to understand though is if he was offered 12.5 now and 5 years from now if the cap goes up, he's going to want more in his UFA and he'll be 27 (prime, exiting prime during that contract). So we're banking on a 5 year plan that will stranglehold Lou's cap space for, likely, the next 3-5 years. I don't see how that will make us better in the long run. Not worth it

This guy is not worth it.</div></div>
He can be a Jan Kovar or Shipachyov or he can be a panarin. There's clearly risk, which is why Vegas only thinks he was worth 2 mil. With that said, Kovar was a good KHL player, but he wasn't top 3 in the league with the elite International play that Gusev has had. To say Gusev is just another Jan Kovar is not fair to the guy until he shows otherwise. (Kovar proved within a few days he wasn't ready for the NHL).

Yeah it's not just gonna be like Hickey, Vande Sompel, and some 2 or 3 round picks. I don't think McPhee is going to give Gusev away for nothing and (even if Eakin isn't coming back after this season), don't think he's gonna send him for nothing either.

It's sort of lofty, but my take would be to find a way to Take Eakin along with Gusev and match value there. Might have to trade Leddy or Hickey+Picks. I like eakin a lot, his cap hit doesn't totally suck. My logic behind why they would give up eakin is because they already have Stastney and Karlsson and I don't see Cody glass not being their 3rd line center this year. The downside is: They don't really have a true 4LC at the moment.

Maybe Beau gets moved into the top 6 at some point or maybe a trade is made for a better 3C, I’m not sure. Perhaps Brassard experiences a renaissance kinda like Filppula did, but like I said with Spooner, you can’t sign him banking on that. It’s tough to say what road they’ll take</div></div>
Admittedly, didn't read the thoughts above on those kinds of options at first. I think you raise some fair points.

I think I am underestimated their current cap situation. He's gonna get a ton of money, no argument there. I'm also accounting for Kyle Connor's deal and them filling out the rest of their bottom 6.
*** edit: Thought they had more like 15 in cap space. 22 mil. If Connor gets 7-7.5, still enough to Laine and bottom 6.

Like the Gusev idea. My only issue with the team looking like this is that that 3rd line is completely incapable of driving offense. Beauvillier needs someone to drive play for him in my opinion. Don't believe brassard (present day, ottawa brassard different story) is that answer.

That argument is correct, but even if we were to offer sheet Laine, I would argue that we can do it for far less than 11.6. Even 8.5-9 million is difficult for Winnepeg to do and it's 2 1's, 1 2nd, and 1 3rd as opposed to 4 1st's + 2-3Mil in extra cap space.

So what you're saying is, we're going to make a streaky goal scorer the highest paid winger in the league because we failed to make a consistent PPG player the highest paid winger in the league in UFA? I like laine, I think he'll have a legit year this year, but that's a ton of $$.

If Beauvillier takes that contract I will personally buy a Home, Away, Alternate, and Fisherman version of his jersey. I think he would get 2x2.5 or 2x3.
