hypothetical trade with Jets (2018 offseason)

Description
I'm a Jets fan so don't criticize the line combos....i'm more interested in Vegas fans thoughts on the Trouba trade.

We love him here in Wpg but rumours are that he isn't keen on signing long-term. Vegas is loaded with young skill up front but lacks a true #1 RHD.

* I considered Trouba + Stanley (our 2016 1st round LHD prospect) instead of Petan and 2nd.

Yeah well he has players not on LTIR and has too many players called up so who cares? He'll be under the cap after they are done.

I think in a couple years Theodore will be as good as Trouba. Nick Suzuki might have the most sentimental value to Vegas of any piece in this trade, so that tanks their interest. This team has made three first round picks. Ever.
So they're not trading one with a recent first round pick defenseman with five points in the playoffs who is owed a mid priced contract this summer, to get a recent first round pick defenseman with three points in the playoffs who is owed a high priced contract this summer.

That would be ridiculously stupid. Thank you for asking.

Its not far off but i think Petan and the 2nd need to be reworked.

If you can make the argument that Toruba is > Theodore, than make the return for the Suzuki the equivalent to the difference between Trouba and Theodore but for the other side with one single asset.

Maybe something like:
Trouba and Veselainen for Theodore and Suzuki. Something along those lines.

You're the one that decided to be petty about the cap space, so I just returned the favor. You understood what he was doing and that was the main point.

If I'm Vegas I don't know if I could ship Theodore off. Especially if they can fetch a RHD with a different trade and keep Theodore, that would be my first option. The kid is going to be stud in a few years.

Yes but they currently have Schmidt, McNabb, Miller all as lefties already. the right side is where they need an upgrade over Sbisa and Engellend. I can see it working, its not like Trouba is anything to sneeze at here. Trouba is right now better than Theodore and a righty to boot.

Edit: i thought miller was a lefty. CF has him as a LD.

1. This hypothetical trade will happen in the offseason. Next years Cap will go up to approx 80 000 000 and you'll have lots of cap space with all your UFA's that you'll let walk. So grammar aside that isn't a concern wink
2. Theodore is good and improving.....so is Trouba. The argument that Theodore will be as good as Trouba in the long term is a matter of opinion doesn't go me any good to try to convince you otherwise. However, using an argument of how many points they have in the playoffs is crazy....small sample size and defencemen are about so much more than points.
3. I chose Theodore because this type of a trade makes sense for LV because they have two young stud LD (Schmidt and Theodore) and no young stud RD.....seems to make sense for both teams.
4. I like the comment above that if Trouba > Theodore ....then the remaining pieces of the trade need to make up that balance. Definitely possible to tinker with the additional pieces.

Some more ideas
Stanley < Suzuki
2019 1st rounder < Suzuki
Petan + Lemieux < Suzuki
