Initial Creation Date: May 11, 2018

Description
OK, cry a little bit...

I wanted to keep (make?) the team competitive in the short term, while keeping long term flexibility to sign Lee, Eberle, Beau and Barzal in the next few years (which is why I set cap at $75M).

2018 draft Veleno (11), Wilde (12), Olivier-Groulx (41) as this team is awful down the middle and RHD for prospect depth.

I think the trades are realistic but would love to hear feedback. If you think the trade is lopsided against the Islanders, that probably means I'm on the right track.

For UFA, overpay Stastny on AAV but limit term. Bridge deal for Pulock, sign young RFA D to short term deals. Sign Johnston, Wagner, Kulemin to short term deals for depth.

Worst contract handed out in the Snow era. That's saying something. Use a 5th and retain salary to move it. Clutterbuck seems like a Torts sandpaper guy

Break up Leddy and Boychuck. Leddy was Mr. Futility at -40. That calls for more changes than just bumping him down a line, although that's a good start.

Why is Stastny going to sign to be a 2nd line center on a team that missed the playoffs with John Tavares as its 2nd line center. These Deus Ex Machina builds seldom work out, but you've got much better odds of keeping Tavares than signing Stastny. Or, maybe, there's a chance of a swap of Carlson for Tavares, each signed for whatever the teams agree are fair eight year deals. That would make NYI's defense actually good, and make the Caps' forwards good enough beat the PIttsburgh Pengu---waht? They what? Are you serious!!!! Wow. No way.

Never mind. Have a great summer, and good luck with your rebuild!

2 2nds and Aho is way too much for Lehner and this is coming from a Sabres fan. In would not even give up Aho for Lehner.

Thanks for the comments - unfortunately I think the NYI are stuck with Leddy and Boychuck, perhaps can go Theodore-Boychuck and Leddy-Pulock, although I really want to limit Boychuck's minutes. The key with Stastny is that it's a shorter term than tavares or Carlson would command longer term (7/8 years) and I'm not willing to do that. I don't think anyone will approach 7.5M for Stastny so I'm trying to be high bidder. It will be an interesting and pivotal offseason for sure.

I see Aho's ceiling to be Thomas Hickey - undersized puck moving 3rd pair D. That's great if ONLY Aho would get it done but I don't think that would do it. Some of the armchair GMs are lopsided heavily in the home team's favor, which is why I went with paying a bit more than necessary (because I think that's more realistic).

        Thanks for the comment!

Pelech takes too many chances. This article is awesome and shows some of his poor decisions: https://www.lighthousehockey.com/2018/3/6/17059576/islanders-video-pelech-defense-pinching-wrong
