Sabres with Tavares and Carlson, and keeping ROR

Description
This is just to see if I can make this work. The obvious many will point out is you mess up the cap long term with Dahlin, Mittelstadt, and Guhle eventually getting raises.....well no f****** **** captain obvious, but the Sabres can still get under the cap if they so choose down the road.

O'Reilly can be traded in 2019 summer, Okposo can be dumped off in a couple years to the Seattle expansion team if it happens, or his deal can be traded with a pick.

And this is also happening with seven million in cap space tied up in Moulson and Pominviille

Bogosian, would need to be traded, and Pommer, Beaulieu and either Larsson or Girgensons, and McCabe would need to be traded or boughtout

Why it doesn't happen though aside from Tavares and Carlson not wanting to come here is, Tavares would give the Sabres three players making ten million or more when Dahlin's ELA is up.

Long term, ROR would still need to be traded, but you can get away with keeping him for at least two more years.

Okposo can also be dumped off to the new expansion franchise in a couple years.

Tavares would probably get top line minutes and I would imagine Eichel would play on his wing.

You don't play a franchise center on the wing.

I mean Pittsburgh does. Tavares wouldn't be our main franchise center based off of age. Eichel will grow into the captain role. Tavares will not.

Tavares IS a captain for the Islanders. Tavares will get top line center because he's John Tavares. If Eichel gets top line minutes Buffalo miss the pplayoffs and thats not on Eichel thats on not playing Tavares enough

You can easily have two top line centres run different lines. That's how the Pens won back to back Cups. The top three lines all get approximately equal ice at even strength, then you load up Tavares, Eichel and whoever else on the PP. This is not a bad "problem" to have.

I don't see Carlson and Tavares both going to Buffalo, but there's a way to make it work if they can pull it off. And who knows, maybe Tavares likes the idea of being close to hometown Toronto without actually playing in the centre of the hockey media universe.

Having 2 Franchise centres can actually be a really good thing. Just see what Crosby and Malkin have accomplished with the Pens. Difference here is it’d be better to keep them on the same line instead of having that depth down the middle. They have a ton of Cs that can take the 2nd line and they’re both obviously good enough to play top minutes so why can’t Eichel play wing for 2-3 years until Tavares starts getting past his prime and drop to 2nd line C

I understand where you're coming from, but it's hard for elite centres to drive the game the same way from the wing. Having Tavares, Eichel and ROR all down the middle also creates matchup hell for opposing teams, and lets each of those three guys elevate two wingers around them instead of having an incredible top line, then a really mediocre third line.
