Pens Retool - 2 trades

Created by: DrZaius_PhD
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: May 21, 2018

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Malkin and the Swedes have had good chemistry in the past and Malkin plays best when he is the shooter on his line 5v5.

The top line is small but includes so much speed and skill. If they have problems with pick retrieval move Sprong to 3rd line and bump up Kessel and Hornqvist.

Sheahan has got some swagger back. Kessel gets a skilled winger in Galchenyuk and a defensively responsible center in Sheahan.

Bellemare anchors the 4th line that has speed on one side and size on the other.

Letang has an even better year, improving on his 51 points and plays better defensively having something to prove.

Riikola gets some time with the big club. If he doesn't cut it, Benn adds some grit and defense with Oleksiak.

Ruhwedel has been a great #7d.

Murray starts around 50 games, giving Jarry some consistent work as backup.

Not bad trades but you're undervaluing guys. Going to need to add more than Simon to move Hunwick's salary if you want Bellemare. I think Montreal could do better, maybe add the Sens pick without retaining Benn's salary. Free agents are overpaid in my opinion, could offer less on one year deals.

Hunwick isn't a bad player and really didnt have a terrible season. His 2.25mil cap hit is reasonable compared to other dmen on the block.

As it stands, the Pens are ahead in the Montreal deal. But it is close to value and the Canadiens need a true center. Brassard may only fill that 2C role, but his output is pretty close to Galchenyuk's. Habs get him cheap for a year and first shot at signing him to an extension. Sheary is a small skilled forward that can play with playmakers. Not your typical 3rd liner, but if used in the right capacity can put up points. He had an up and down year and still managed 18 goals. If you replace Benn with Schlemko, I would definitely add something to it.
