Philly - Carlson, Ryan, #4, Rinne

Created by: Whatuplilpup
Team: 2018-19 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: May 24, 2018
Published: Jun. 3, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
-Trading for Rinne to entice Carlson. Would probably cost a prospect (Rubtsov) or another pick. Whatever the cost, I want him to mentor Hart for a couple seasons.
-If Ceci is a deal breaker, swapping Gudas for MacDonald. Simmonds is worth a 1st+, plus #14 overall, plus taking on Ryan's albatross contract, and Neuvy should be enough for #4 and either Ceci or MacD contract. Taking Tkachuk or Zadina.
-Need an upgrade at PK. Pitlick corsi was excellent. Haag should be enough, but I threw in Weal anyway.
*Did a 2019 gma, Provy@$6.5m, Ceci@$5m, etc would put us right around $82-84m depending on re-signing Rinne. Planning to lose Ghost, Carlson, or Voracek to expansion depending on Sanheim and Myers growth.

Not a fan of taking on Ryan to move up to 4?... That's the only possibility.
Too unrealistic...I agree. Rinne would probably cost a bit more and Ceci would probably be off the table. Ghost and Jake will probably be traded in the next two years and we don't really have a shot at Carlsson.
I know you're all about Bouchard but they aren't drafting a defenseman and playing him for more than 40 games in the next 2 years...

Ceci is absolute garbage. Simmonds is better than Ryan. So you are giving up way too much and we take on a ton of cap. Makes no sense to me.

Rinne is fine but they would probably want more.

Why do we need Pitlick?

Ok, on Ceci, so we'll add MacD instead of Gudas and drop Ceci from the trade. You're not getting to 4 without Ryan, whether that costs us Simmonds or not, but I think the value to move up that high is in line.
Throw in a 2nd or 3rd Rd pick for Rinne, whatever the cost.
We could grab a pk fa this off-season but Pitlicks 5v5 and pk analytics are really good. In this scenario Haag became expendable. Ceci and Pitlick sound way better than Gudas, Haag, and Weal... Just my opinion

Giving Sanheim 3rd pairing minutes is stupid. He is a top 4 guy no doubt. Hagg is the perfect 3rd pairing D man. So that leaves Ghost, Myers and Gudas on RD. Gudas played well when paired with Sanheim. Manning made Gudas look worse than he is. Ryan in no way helps this team other than locking up a roster spot for multiple years. We don’t need to trade up to 4, we can likely go to 7 or 8 and still get a very good player.

That Ottawa trade is better than people are making it out to be. The package you gave shouldn't be able to get number 4 (I've seen worse trades accepted so who knows) let alone adding Ceci who I think is pretty unnecessary in the trade. Is the value you need to add made up by taking on Ryan? Idk. But even if it is, or I guess even if it isn't as it would favour us, I don't want to be the team to take on Ryan. If his deal was shorter, sure, but this team is in a position to compete in the last 2 years of his deal, the last thing you want is a bad contract stopping you from making a move that can put you over the hump. Personally I don't want to give up a first for a stopgap goalie but that trade isn't too bad. Let's be real, goalies don't usually get traded for great packages. Worst trade for me is the Pitlick one. Why give up a young d-man and a bottom six forward for a fourth liner

Ottawa makes that trade without pause.

You can only give Carlson 7 years.

I wouldn't have mentioned it if I wasn't already commenting...

People make such a big deal about the 8th year (idiotic sign-n-trades), but in reality if a team is going to be willing to go 8*$8M cap hit, they will be willing to go 7*$9M. If a player has that value to a team ($8M) they will be able to find the $1M extra cap space.
