ROR + Silf

Created by: pawnjohn
Team: 2018-19 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 4, 2018
Published: Jun. 4, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Blues add talent and balance to top 6/9.

ROR adds another 1C that is great on the draw and is a defensive specialist.
Silfverberg is a solid 2way forward that provides 20g/40pts and a RHS to our top 9.

Our prospect depth takes a hit, but provides us with very solid center depth for a long time (once schenn is re-signed).

RW is solid with Senko and Kyrou (if he pans out) with the option of re-signing Silf if he blends with the group.

LW is solid with Schwartz at 1LW, & Berglund is a solid 3LW. Steen is still a serviceable top6 LW and will be an excellent 3LW in the near future. We still have top6 possible in Kostin & Top9/possible top 6 prospects in Sanford, Blais, and Foley.

Top4 D is set with Petro/Parayko & Ed/Dunn. Bouwmeester (when healthy) is a solid 3rd pair/top 4 fill in on defense.
Bortz & Schmaltz (top4 potential still) are both solid bottom pair that each bring different elements to their games.

Defense depth still includes Mikkola & Lindbohm.

In this scenario we lose 2 picks and gain one. We have options in Bergy and Steener to help bolster/recoupe some picks if needed as well.

We also have plenty of cap space for any deadline deals, resigning Petro/Schenn in the future, or to be able to take on a bad contract in order to facilitate another deal.

Probably not, Sobotka we do not need, Walman also, we have a lot of LHD, perhaps interesting only Fabbri, but his health scares, it's too risky to take that player.

I personally like the deal for Buffalo. Sobotka is a bit overpaid but improves our bottom-6 and adds depth scoring that was severely lacking last year. Walman adds even more depth to defense and more long term options for when Scandella, Bogo, and other changes are made to the backend but I can’t lie that idk the upside of Walman. Fabbri I agree gives us speed and scoring to top-9 and the 1st Round Pick lets Botterill continue to build his team the way he wants

Who will play in the top 6? If we're selling ROR like that, I don't have blind faith in the children of Rochester, and I certainly don't want to see Pominville and Girgensons there. LHD Scandella, McCabe, Dahlin (maybe), Guhle, Pilut, Beaulieu, why we need Wallman, Sobotka garbage, Fabbri good player, but as I said, his health is confused, the first round of very late would still, we can to exchange ROR better or at all not to change.

While he wouldn't be a "need," Sobotka is far from garbage. Again, he is included here to help alleviate some of the cap complications from taking on ROR 7.5/year. He is a very serviceable 3C/LW and solid PK'er. He also only has 2 years left and no trade clauses, allowing him to be dealt if he isn't a fit. I don't know your prospect pool that well, but a combo of LW- Eichel - Okposo, LW- Middlestadt- Reinhart, LW-Sobotka-RW with Nylander & Fabbri filling in on the LW positions. Using sobotka in a defensive role allows the Middlstadt-Reinhart to be sheltered a bit offensively as the same time.

In terms of Walman, outside of Dahlin & Scandella, none of those guys prevent Walman from being a need. Dahlin, while being LHS plays mostly on as a RD. Running Dahlin/Risto on the Right side is the making of a solid D. Scandella would make a great partner for either of them as a top pair LD. But McCabe & Beaulieu are both poor options for top4 and have minimal offensive instincts. PIlut hasn't played in North America, so counting on him is risky. Guhle looks pretty solid, but definitely not head and shoulders above Walman.

In terms of projections, Walman is a top4 with top pair potential. His skating is excellent and his shot/offensive instincts are very good. He pushed Dunn for making the blues roster at camp last year as well.

We need the left wingers in the top 6,, we need a defender in the top 4, Sobotka and Walman does not fit this description at the moment, OK, maybe they are good players, but they do not solve our problems, Dahlin can play from any side, this is of course his plus, but we are not given to Dunn or Parayko, you give us Walman. I'm sorry, but no, I'd rather keep the ROR for at least one season while Mittelstadt is quietly developing in the third link.
