I don’t think this is necessarily the case. I see Buffalo in this scenario running all 3 pairings pretty equally while using more of a Tampa model where they can have a powerhouse defender on the ice at all times (Hedman/McDonagh/Sergachev)

Mitts value can’t be as high as some expect he really hasn’t proven much. And wasn’t sure how to play with pairings but was trying to avoid Bryson-Joki

Yeah idk, I get your point on Hagg that maybe he should’ve gotten a bit more. I guess I just don’t feel as strongly.
But yeah, GK and a RHD may be the biggest needs for this team. With Francouz and Forsberg signing with their teams, I think that’ll have to be a trade now

I mean yeah in this scenario I see Bryson/Pysyk being the pieces rotating. If Bryson can stay hot, no problem with Pysyk being the 7
Also I could see this being the case anyways if they are training Bryson to play right side. If he stays left, his time on the team ends this offseason

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gretzkyghosts</b></div><div>The Sabres do not have many options at RHD.
Unlikely that any UFA RHD other than Miller or Pysyk would sign with the Sabres, so maybe management will resign them.
Similar with RW, Tuch, Okposo are signed with one really good prospect Quinn and one likely NHL player Peterka, so it would make sense to sign Hinostroza.
Considering Vinnie has a good relationship with Granato and has played really wel, he may also sign with the Sabres.
I see no reason to resign Butcher or Eakin.
On the other hand Anderson may want to mentor Luukkonen, he is certainly respected by all of his team mates.
Who knows. We do not know how Pegula will mess with the team.
I was deeply disappointed with the TDL.

How does Dermott rate a third and Hagg only a sixth.
Why accept only a 6th for Hagg 24 hours before the end of the TDL?</div></div>
I think Dermott being signed through next year and slightly younger makes sense. Idk a 6th is fine.
I think Vinnie could be fine to re-sign, but that really locks up any room to improve. Including Miller and Pysyk in this, idk I want to upgrade the team and not run it back.
We got trade capital and salary cap to overpay a guy like Braun as well which I think could fit a RD role a little better than Miller. But, I think we should be making our damage in trade and only bringing back Pysyk and maybe Hinostroza

Edit** And oh BTW he still has more points than Mitts this season even if you pro rate Mitts points to the same number of games played!</div></div>
Yeah around here Mitts is a bit overvalued. He’s definitely got skill and upside seen last year, but this season has been really hard on him

Mitts has had an injury ruined season and I haven't given up on him yet unless it's the right deal. Maybe we really need a decent 3C, but not at this price, especially if our problems with RD and goalie are still not resolved. Samuelsson - Jokiharju makes a lot of sense, but then we need to find partners for Power and Dahlin. A guy like Copp would probably be a great signing for UFA.</div></div>
How do you feel about Schultz or Braun? Schultz is a more offensive damn and we’ve seen Dahlin play well with that even this year with Bryson. Braun would be a vet defensive guy who could take the Power mentor role

Jokiharju is having a terrible season and is not a legit top 4 D either.</div></div>
I agree RHD and goalies are a need. I just think a defensive C is as well. Fitz is more of an experiment with Dahlin for the rest of season and Joki has played well in the past with defensive defensemen so that’s why I want him to be tried with Samuelsson

We also do have to worry about the salary floor the next couple years. That’s why signing guys like Braun slightly more expensive to hold the fort and provide leadership I think is a good idea

Noted on Garland, I didn’t wanna sell him short to Vancouver. He has good term and cap for what he’ll bring us too.
I don’t think Wood is a downgrade. If anything I think they bring similar skill in different roles which I think Buffalo needs more of what Wood brings. He feels like a Tuch light and we have plenty of smaller skill guys here and coming up

Wild deal is just me trying to play with other goalie options. But understandable
Strome I think could be a stronger center that’s a couple years ahead of the current core like Tuch is. Young enough to be around for a while and be more steady veteran presence for the next wave coming up. Good as well
Idk what else you get for Olofsson, I just don’t see his high value everyone else seems to see. Getting a vet top-6, solid defensive prospect, and a pick should be more than enough

The deal with Wild is interesting but idk if they move their captain or if Buffalo moves that many assets for one player.
Other note… please break up that top pairing. It’s disgustingly bad and hopefully with more RHD Granato finally splits them up next year
