Description
Playing around with ideas to get Barzal and Lee to Minnesota. I think Dumba and our 1st this year would have to be included along with another top tier player (in this case Staal). Islanders get a lot of draft picks in return (24OA and 63OA this year, 2nd round pick next year) with a stud young RD and a promising LD along with a 1st line C in Staal. I think a younger player instead of Staal would make more sense if they are moving Barzal and Lee (which probably means Tavares is leaving), but I didn't want to give up Ek, Kunin, or Granlund since we are already giving up our 1st this year and second next year. This leaves our draft pick cupboard very bare, but Barzal and Lee are excellent young players that could be worth it.

I'm not a huge Carlson fan but if we move Dumba we'd need someone to fill in for his top 4 RD role. Carlson is the best free agent D, and we'd have cap space with this trade, so this is what I went with. Signing Carlson makes us really tight with cap and straps down the right side of our top 4D with Spurgeon and Carlson which could be bad news for Belpedio if his goal is to play as a top 4 RD here (unless we moved Spurgeon). We'd be taking a downgrade with our D, but set ourselves up very nicely with our forwards in the future.

I don't think those pieces get you Barzal, let alone Anders Lee on top.

No? Dumba has Brent Burns potential, he's a 23 year old right handed 50 point defenseman. Players like Dumba are rare, he is a franchise defenseman. Staal put up 42 goals last year tying our franchise best for a season and while he probably doesn't do that again he could absolutely be over 30. Another 1st round pick would give Islanders 3 total, and they could either draft 2 really good prospects and a good prospect, or they could trade up. Olofsson has second pairing potential, he could probably play on the second pairing for the whole season next year. I think at most we would have to include a player like Eriksson Ek, but the Islanders are making a huge haul.

LOL. I'm an Isles fan. Dream on pal. There is nothing you could give the Isles that would make them trade you Barzal...

Thanks for the feedback, I think everything has a price. Gretzky was traded and nobody thought that would happen. It's unlikely the Isles move Barzal, but anything is possible.

Agreed.

This is essentially the Rights to Dumba and the 24th overall for an 85pt Rookie & a guy who has averaged 36 goals over the last two seasons and had 25 in 3/4 full seasons.

I know staal has reemerged, but seems like fools gold to me. Even if he produces for another year, he will get paid again and I am not sure offering a 34 year old (who was until (cough cough) two years ago wasn't anwhere close to a first line player for 5 years a hefty contract years & money is what the Isles need.

85 point Rookie. Under control for 6 years. EIGHTY FIVE.

Troll post? The value is not even close my man. As everyone said above in this thread, spare parts will not get you a 21 year old/85 pt rookie and 40 goal scorer

It would take Granlund, Dumba and your next two 1sts to get Barzal. If you wanted Lee Too, add Kunin and Neiderreiter

Nobody wants Staal or Foligno. They have little to no value. Staal maybe as a deadline deal, but he has one year left and will want term and or pay day for a aging guy who disappeared for a while. That Foligno contract is awful. 3m a year for 20pts. Yikes. Hartnell, Beagle, Winnik, Letestu, Schaller all cheaper and better options as Free agents.
