Not Trading the third best player

Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 9, 2018
Published: Jun. 9, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Traded for a 1st to keep the prospect train rolling, and got younger and cheaper on D by sending Letang to EDM. His NTC gives him a 12-team no-trade list, which I doubt would include the one with McDavid, and Chiarelli would love to have a veteran PP QB with 3 cups.

massive downgrade at D, our weakest position. Penguins are a win now team, picks are worthless

And no way letang waives to go to such a dumpster fire org.

also, you traded the 3rd best player.

I don’t see them moving that first unless they are dumping bad salary with it. Letang has a lot of miles

Kessel > Letang all day. The point of the comment about not trading the 3rd best player was how many Pens lineups on this site trade Kessel for peanuts.
Letang's NTC isn't a full one: he gets a 12-team no trade list. I doubt the Oil would be on that list, given their host of exciting young talent and the presence of the best player in the world.
Klefbom is a solid #1D who can QB a powerplay and is both younger and cheaper than Letang, creating a scenario in which we are virtually guaranteed to be able to keep either Guentzel or Brassard, and possibly both.
Picks are essential for extending windows by getting Sheary/Guentzel type players- young guys who can effectively complement the star players. This is how the Pens were able to make their window last from 2009 to today. The Oilers pick could easily become the next such player to fly alongside these stars when Guentzel/Brassard/Sheary become too expensive.
This is the other big reason for swapping out our #1D: Klefbom is 26, while Letang is 33. It's doubtful that Letang will be workable as a #1D for the next few years, but it's a near-certainty with Klefbom.
That's the point of this roster: win this year, and next year, and the year after, and so on. Extend the championship window as much as possible in order to win as much as possible.

It's Chiarelli. This man traded Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson straight up.

Franson is a solid 2nd pair guy I can get for a million a year. Why the hell wouldn't I put him on every lineup I make? As for Marincin, this team was loaded at LD so I didn't have a spot for him.

If they hired me as GM they would be. And IMO they should: $7 million contracts to players over 30 are generally bad things.
