The offer for Barrie is okay but given Colorado current position with Defense, I would not accept the offer. They are definitely lacking talent on the back end. I see Toronto going after Justin Faulk or Tanev in the offseason though.

Colorado is in need of a true #1 defensemen and Barrie may, get there some day. The Wings are not trading Mantha for Gardiner. So we take a cost controlled 25 goal scorer for an overpriced defenseman that everyone wants to chase out of Toronto. Plus we can sign Mantha for less then Gardiner and for longer contract. That is one of the worst trades I have seen lately.

So, why does Arizona want Horton? He isn't playing and he costs 10.25m out of pocket . Why does Detroit trade one of their few good youngers players with term, for one year of Gardiner It's almost similar for Barrie, a don't see the Leaf trading Nylander for two years of Barrie. Defence seems to be a need of both teams so I don't see the Avs making the trade either.

As a Colorado Fan I would be happy with this trade. It hurts them this season on the back end, but they have Meloche, Makar, Timmons in the pipeline and at least one of them should stick. Nylander fills a big void on the second line RW.

Palhal, Im sure Arizona doesn't "want" Horton, but they may want is 5+mil to reach the cap floor (this was before OEL was "signed") Toronto needs the cap space eventually, dump the contract now. Why does Detroit do a lot of things? read they are interested in Kovalchuk, brilliant pick up. Toronto wont be able to afford Matthews,Marner and Nylander going forward, trade Nylander for a young right handed D, pick Dumba if Barrie doesn't wet your whistle. Might be a few buy outs after next season, Martin? Marleau?, 20 mil coming for the M&M boys (Matthews and marner that is)
