This is the worst possible option for Ottawa. Not PK specifically, but the idea of taking back an established dman who is good, but worse than Erik Karlsson and minimal future pieces. Either you want to contend, so you give Karlsson the moon, or you want to rebuild, and you trade Karlsson for the moon. trying to find a middle ground leaves you as a middle of the pack team who likely still misses the playoffs and leaves you without any big pieces for the future to justify the trade.

That said, I fully expect something like this to happen because I have no faith in the Sens owner/ management to do anything but the worst thing possible.

Would you think thst ottawa would flip subban in a 3 team trade?

Bergevin would say yes. Ottawa, who is in their division, gets the less better dman in this scenario.

it's what I would do with him, but I think that if he's part of a Karlsson trade, he plays in Ottawa. Melnyk would likely think that he has a better chance of selling tickets with PK vs without PK. He doesn't care about the team.

but even If you flip Subban, I think this is a bad trade Idea for Ottawa. Maybe i'm crazy, but the market for Karlsson is more competitive than it would be for PK imo, and I think you can get a better for Karlsson than a late first in 2019 + whatever you get for PK Subban.

Nashville shouldn’t have to throw in that extra pick, Karlsson will also cost more to retain than Subbans contract now so I doubt Nashville would be able to resign him, so they are moving out Subban and next years first for one year of an equal player

This trade somewhat makes sense, but would never work out. No way Nashville could retain Karlsson with a big dollar, long term deal. Also, maybe adding in a 2nd or 3rd rounder at most, not sure if that move needs to be made with a first rounder too.
