Description
If the Bruins are able to sign Kovalchuk, they should stock up. Very interested in feedback on the Oilers trade. A lot of moving parts and Bruins might even be giving up too much when considering how difficult I think it will be for Chiarelli to shed that contract. There is no doubt Krejci & Lucic had their best years together. Very possible too far past their prime but would be very interested to see that second line with Kovalchuk. Can easily drop Lucic to the third line with Backes on the other side and move Debrusk up. This would most likely be necessary beyond next season if declining production continues for Lucic. At $3mil, Lucic's contract is tolerable for the 5yr remaining. Bruins lose a lot of young prospects but their pool is full and it retains a lot of their center prospects.

McQuaid = need off the roster. Can find depth at the trading deadline if/when needed.

The 2nd and 3d pairing for D provides a lot of versatility with pairings for 2018-2019. Love Grzel 5 on 5 game when compared to Krug. Krug is great, but not cheap.

Next Off-season: Cannot resign Chara, need to focus on McAvoy & Carlo. Current space $3.8 + any increase in salary cap next year = $5mil from Chara = a lot of space to accomplish this with RFA.

If Krejci is not able to have a strong/productive 2018-2019, I would buyout his contract at the end of the year. This would free up $4.7m for 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 to further address upcoming prospects. This would especially be the case if Donato, Frederic, Fitz, or Forsbacka are looking ready for increased roles and the second line did not come together/no cup in 2018-2019. With Chara gone: Klef-McAvoy, Grzel - Carlo, Zboril/Lauzon-Miller. I would be very surprised if neither Zboril or Lauzon were NHL ready by the beginning of 2019-2020.

I kind of like this, but I think Bjork is in the top 9 without a doubt, especially if Heinen is moved. I am not sure EDM covers 3m if giving up the 1st

Let's say Klefbom & krug balance each other out. I am not sure Heinen, Cehlarik and Koopanen return the 10th overall + picks & Lucic at 3m.

I think it's close, but Zboril would need to be included or EDM retaining less salary - it doesn't help their cap situation that much because If Heinen has another good year, he will need to get paid.

@ 3m, it's not so bad, but I not for anything more than that.

Propeller09 Thank you for the feedback, you brought up some great points. I think with the recent signing of Urho Vaak that Zboril could go in the deal (maybe take the place of Chel or Kopp and in addition add a guaranteed 2nd round pick from Boston for 2019 that increases to a first round pick if the Bruins make it to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Lucic @ $3m is the only way this deal works. At $3m very tolerable even with the length. Complete agreement.

I did struggle with leaving Bjork off the main roster. Cannot put him on the 4th line, not to mention I love that 4th line as it is, but it gets tight near the top. Reading your comment did give me the idea of what if they make the trade without signing Kovalchuk and simply slotted Bjork into the second line RW spot? That becomes very appealing especially considering they would then be sitting with $10.5m in cap space.

Thank you for the feedback!

I am torn on Kovalchuck. A part of me really wants him and a part of me is scared he won't be worth it. I am nervous them needing so many young guys to produce. I love the 4th line too, but I read they were thinking about moving away from the grinding 4th line Schaller and Kuraly just had decent years and might get decent bumps and the Bruins might want to go the way of a more skilled and younger 4th line. If they do that, they test out an extra center to see if they have a legit replacement for Krejci in one of the young guys.
