That's not too bad of a trade I suppose. Although if I am Dubas, I am not even entertaining the thought of Karlsson or Doughty, or Carlsson. Pump the brakes and see what we have with Liljegren and in the meantime, find a valuable addition that doesn't take anything away from an already impressive roster. Trading for Tanev or Myers makes way more sense for TO. They will have to look at trading away one of the big three if they want to resign Karlsson who'll be 28 and looking for an 8 year deal at above 10 million a season. What happens when he loses a step in year 3 of that deal? Is Karlsson a guy who can transition into a defensive stalwart and expert Penalty Killer? Its a risk I wouldn't be willing to take.

No way the Leafs make this deal and no way Ottawa makes it as well. Any Karlsson deal gets complicated, because any team that tries to trade for him and give up significant assets would want an extension worked out prior to the completion of a deal. No way the Leafs pay that sort of price for a rental anyway. As it stands, I don't see Karlsson resigning with Ottawa anyway, so the Leafs, like every other team, would have a shot to land Karlsson next offseason for only money, lots of money, but only money.
