Nope. Not giving up Otts 1st, Avs 1st, and Timmins if you have to take back Ryan at full contract value.

Thats way too much to give up on the combo of how bad the Sens want their own pick back and having to take on Ryan.

Please convince Joe Sakic to make that trade with the Sens, I'm begging you. For all that Sens fans have been put through, please! As a sens fan, I love that trade, and under different circumstances, it looks fair to me. But with the value that that 2019 first rounder holds, I don't see the Sens also getting back another first rounder and roster players. Sigh...

Hey Colorado fans, don't trade Ottawa's first! No Matter what. Ottawa is a dumpster fire and will be the worst team in hockey next season. They will finish dead last and possibly have the 1st overall pick next year. So just sit back and watch their world burn. They'll either give you 4th overall this year, in which case you can talk about Karlsson, if not then laugh your way to the bank with the 1st pick next year.

As a Colorado fan, I don't mind giving up Ottawa's first in a deal for Karlsson. At the end of the day, you're still dealing with a lot of "if" situations for next year.

This pick could be an amazing #1 overall if:
1) Ottawa tanks again (likely)
2) Ottawa wins the lottery
3) Jack Hughes lives up to expectations (no reason to think he won't)

It was only last year that COL had a historically bad season, dropped to 4th after the lottery, and then continued to make the playoffs next year. I completely agree that Ottawa is a dumpster fire, think their outlook is bleaker than Colorado's was and believe they'll likely finish last next year, but you're not guaranteed the 1st overall pick.

I'm fine making a move for Karlsson because he is a proven generational player in his 20s. I think that this particular trade is an overpayment though.

Ottawa's best player after they trade Hoffman and Karlsson will be Matt Duchene. Look what happened when he left Colorado! Not that I'm blaming him, but he's not exactly been a catalyst for success over the past couple of years.

Hughes is supposed to be the best player at the draft since Matthews. That means he's generational, worth the risk if you ask me. Especially since Karlsson is going to demand more than 10 mill a season for 8 years, thats a steep price for someone who is entering their 30's.

I agree that Ottawa is going to be short on stud players - they'll lose 2/4 of top producers, and the team attitude will likely be terrible. That being said, look at Vegas this year. That team supposedly didn't have much scoring depth and they went way further than they should've. It's not a pure apples to apples comparison, but I'm saying that you're not guaranteed to get the pick. I think Ottawa could easily find a way to be in the 5-10 worst teams, instead of in the 1-3 worst.

As far as Karlsson's contract - if I were Sakic, I wouldn't trade for Karlsson unless there was already a verbal deal in place. And if the price is too high and you're mortgaging your future, then be satisfied with holding the pick.

Fair enough. I would argue that the 4th overall pick this year could be of more use for Colorado than Karlsson. He's going to be an Albatros, him Doughty and Tavares are pretty much the last of the star players signing bridge deals pattern. It doesn't work, Anaheim and Chicago found that out and soon anyone who signs these 3 to massive contracts will learn the same. Players decline in their 30's, its just a fact of life.

Well, MacKinnon is in that same boat haha. He'll be turning 28 at the start of his next contract.

Yup good luck with that, hopefully they'll be able to sign a short term high value contract for him.
