GMBots says the Sabres appreciate your interest in ROR but for now the Sabres will pass on your offer.

The Sabres would have interest in Coyle but have zero interest in Staal..... he does not fit what we are building in Buffalo.

How about the following:

ROR
Reinhart
Buffalo 2018 6th Round Pick

for

Zucker
Niederreiter
Ennis
Minnesota's 2018 3rd Round Pick
Greenway

We'll still have to find some center if ROR gone, to play well in defense, I'm afraid Casey and Jack won't be able to do it alone in that aspect, but I like your thoughts. smile

GMBots will look to the FA pool to find a #2C..... there are no real ideal Centers that fit exactly what the Sabres will need.... I am thinking

Bozak
Brock Nelson.... Lehner to NYI plus other assets
Hayes or Spooner.... maybe a deal involving Risto
Derek Ryan.... not an ideal #2 but has speed and scores even up... also can play PK

Derek Ryan is my favorite choice as he will be less costly than the others.

Wow. I fully agree with you. Derek Ryan is also quite a fast player that just fits the system of Housley, plus the money I think will not be so much. Bozak seems to have problems with the defensive game, and Nash will certainly try to knock out a bigger contract after such a good season.

The Sabres could overpay Ryan for 2 or 3 years and he would be a useful component..... he 31 years old will be 32 in December if the Sabres throw him $3,000,000 to $3,500,000 for 2 years that works for both parties.

Staal > O'Reilly Plus
Coyle >>>>> nothing
$3,500,000 + $3,200,000 < $7,500,000
Staal also has a championship ring (I like having them on my team)
I wonder what Botterill could get for Eric and Lehner from Carolina, Calgary
Pominville, Scandella and Staal to MTL for 2018 1st
Staal to ANA for Silfverberg, J and 2018 1st
I love your idea of Derek Ryan. I complete over looked him. Very inexpensive alternative at center.

You are correct on Staal being a solid player I just do not think he is the right player at this time for GMBots..... I do like your thinking though of what could you possibly get if you flipped him.
