If I am Washington and I am giving up Holtby, I dont want a goalie in return. I would rather rely on Grubauer and speedy development of my two elite prospects. Greiss wouldnt fit in DC if this were really the trade.

Carlson is making more than $7 million a year. It would be shocking if he gets less than $8.5. Also, unless it's a sign and trade, NYI cannot sign him to an 8 year deal - max 7 years.

There is no way that trade happens. EVER! First off, the Caps aren't trading Holtby, but if they did, his return would catch far more than what you put on there. The Caps don't need another top 6 F, especially someone like Eberle. The Caps don't need Greiss either as they already have Copley to back up Holtby next year. Brutal trade.

Could maybe package Burakovsky and Grubauer's rights for a good prospect (maybe Ho-Sang) and a 1st (or 2nd and 3rd).

if you think holtby brings back more then a top 6 forward a 1 and a 3 youre flat out high af...most hometown fans way overvalue their players...holtby is 28 and looked like garbage before the playoffs..plus hes making way too much for way too long

why would they give up that much for a RFA and barely a second line player...

i went through this w people w galch and hoffman...they way overvalued their hometown guys and they got moved for pennies...dont forget to message me when holtby goes for peanuts so caps can sign carlson

Well good thing I’m not a home town fan. Holtby is not getting traded. His contract is only like 6.5M for 2-3 more years, so he’s not making a lot for not a very long time. If he did get traded, it would be for a legit top 6 forward, not Eberle. They would also get a top prospect and a 1st. That is at the minimum. Holtby is a top 5 goalie in the league who had a off year but had a great playoffs.

blah blah blah every moron on here says the same thing...player prospect pick...circumstance changes things holmes..like having more then one possible starting goalie..and kids coming up...while having to resign key position players..im not saying theyre giving him away bot other teams realize this as well...eberle is at least a top 6 so i dunno what you're talking ab...tom wilson plays on line 1 in washington...stunad

We are literally saying the same thing.. that is why Washington wouldnt want Greiss in the trade. They would want another forward or even a decent prospect.. No Greiss...

maybe we are...i was looking for a way to move Greiss...3 million for a below average backup over 2 years...Islanders have lots of not so good contracts in my opinion..Boychuck, Leddy, Clutterbuck, Ladd...with a bunch of picks this is a fun team to play with...hard to find suitors...i guess they don't have to move greiss but it'll be tough for them to find a goalie if they don't move some money...couple guys think their D is ok so maybe they use the money i spent on Carlsson on a keeper

also burakovsky is said to be on the trade market...making 3 million and due for a raise next season...i factor these things in..washington up against it CAP wise for at least a year or two...i figured eberle if he chooses to resign would sign for cheaper then 6 million...or they move him at deadline to contender since hes on a 1...these sites are hard because theres more thinking that goes into the trade then just the names you see moving....btw how are you a preds and wings fan...

Give Washington a prospect. Maybe move Greiss to a team that has questionable goaltending for a 4th or 5th round pick. As a Detroit fan, i have felt the pain of bad contracts for too long.. But in the new age NHL, all these guys are getting 6-8 year deals making $5-6M and end up shutting down the day after they sign it... So many teams have dead contracts and there are way too many.
