Hawks pass. I don't think they're giving up 1st rounders like they used too. If anything...they've found cap space so they're likely to trade for more picks rather than trade away picks.

After the draft, I'm starting to feel more and more like Dahlin is going to be playing RHD, we have a lot of depth LHD and Samuelsson in the future looks like the perfect partner for Dahlin.

They are looking for a top 4 Dman and they’re looking for someone to take Hossa so IDK if they are satisfied with their cap situation. I can agree the first is to much but I don’t think Murphy is enough to deal with 3 years of Hossa’s cap, and would definitely want something else coming back, especially addressing their other want

Hawks say no. Hossa is free cap space on LTIR and is only owed 1 million in cash a year. A floor team that doesn't want to spend money (Melnyk in OTT) would love to house his contract. Hossa's contract has some value.

its not really free cap space, it takes some effort, it’s not as easy as CF makes it. As I said, I agree the first is a lot but would like to work this deal out. I’d still want to add something though, I think, Murphy and Scandella are an even swap imo

It doesn't take much effort to move him to a floor team. Or a team looking for cap relief.

Right, I’m offering that, but those teams aren’t taking him for free either, it’s foolish to think they will. No one will willingly help another team, they’re going to charge Chicago a convenience fee. Bowman already knows this irl and is still looking to ship out Hossa knowing they will have to pay. so I’m asking what to replace the first with

Not really. If it helps them reach the cap floor, then it's a you scratch my back I scratch yours situation. When Datsyuk's contract was moved to AZ, Detroit moved 16th overall and Datsyuk for Vitale, 20th and 53rd. So basically, they traded down and dumped cap.

Arizona moved up to grab a falling Chychrun they new wouldnt get there at 20. So they knew they were getting a confirmed NHL Dman there. Also the cap floor is 55 mill, no teams should have any trouble clearing that right now

@NickC1988 Before yesterday I would have thought OTT would have done something with Duclair and Hossa because Duclair's still a speedy talented winger...guess that didn't happen.

I don't know how the hawks are letting Duclair go UFA. It doesn't make sense how they couldn't even get a pick for him.
