Penguins Summer

Created by: LetsTalkNHL
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 26, 2018
Published: Jun. 26, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1. We need cap space. I would trade both Sheary and Hagelin. I think both are good 3rd liners who can put up 25-30 points, but we need the cap space more. I would move them for picks.
2. Penguins have qualified every RFA except for Sheahan and Kuhnhackl. I think Tom will hit free agency, but we will try to sign Sheahan for a little less.
3. Resign Rust, Oleksiak, Jarry, Sheahan.
4. Take a chance on Duclair. Many players have been able to get their careers back on track after joining the Penguins, and I think Duclair could be a smart addition. His game has a lot of upside and potential. He can play with Malkin and Kessel.
5. Sign a depth forward and defenseman. There is extra cap space after moving Hagelin and Sheary, so bring in the people you want to sign.

I like the ideas, I think a few guys are underpaid. especially because theyre probably going to arbitration. I would say Rust would be closer to 3 mil per year. and Sheahan closer to 2.25.
Just a thought I would put some betting money on the depth forward to be from WBS in the form of Teddy Bleuger or Adam Johnson. Both guys are listed as centers and Sprong played some of his best last year along side Johnson.
The only comment I would make on your roster would be to swap Rust and Duclair. I would definitely want a more defensive minded winger with geno and kessel to cover them a little.

Sheahan is not going to arbitration because they did not issue a qualifying offer, and I think its more likely for an arbitrator to rule in the Pens favor since Rust lacks regular season stats.
