Match Karlsson, let the other ones go. Wait for Edm to have cap trouble and get more picks and Theodore back.

I mean Its possible but your dealing with the Vegas knights here. They have oodles of cap space and players who would want to stay there after the great run they had.

For an offer sheet to be not matched, you don't have to just go a bit more then the expected amount. You have to go all willy nilly high. Vegas is signing Karlsson for every dollar unless it starts going into the 9-10M range and if that's the case, why would any team want that? The price would be four 1st round picks. For a guy who had 1 good year.

Offer sheets don't work. All you do is piss the other GM off so that he wants to do the same thing to you and you over pay for a player and lose assets in the process.

My thought would be gambling at the max number before the next level of compensation kicks in and just to raise the numbers and years to mess with the rest of the roster build for Vegas but it could backfire bad on your own team kinda like an auction sale where you bid something up that you don’t really want

Also, if it isn't the same round of pick, the picks must be in the same year. Example being you need a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to sign Karlsson, it has to be in the 2019 draft year.

Ya would be interesting also if these picks brought more picks and those picks got more players from teams that couldn’t protect them from Seattle and next expansion draft where vegas doesn’t lose a player

. Crazy I barely figured out the calculator let alone read the fine print so 1 offer sheet could cost u top 3 of your own picks plus next years 1st or 4 straight firsts crazy

So then you have to ask yourself this: Is screwing Vegas over by raising the potential price to sign these guys worth potentially losing a trading partner in the future?

I think the NHL GM's have spoken on this one already, which is why we don't see offer sheets anymore. Its not worth it. Trading is hard enough as is and now you want to lose 1 more person to trade with and maybe get them to do the same thing to you when you'll have a difficult negotiation to do? Its simply not worth it.

Its probably cheaper and better to just to out right trade for that player instead.

For sure makes sense even the compensation levels and price levels vs salary cap I couldn’t find a rfa that actually made sense to offer sheet vs salary cap for example a rebuilding team with the cap space that could use karlsson at 7.1 cap hit couldn’t afford the 2 firsts 1 second 1 third would stunt the rebuild or the team that is built that could withstand the draftpicks going can’t afford the overpay on the caphit kinda a useless thing the offer sheet unless there’s true hatred between two gms like Lowe and Burke in years past
