Description
Based on rumors to be signed July 1 and guys on the current roster to be resigned in the near future Pit is over the cap and allotted roster space. From here if I'm GMJR I do everything I can to package Hunwick, Sheary, and/or DeSmith for a top 4 D man

Just a couple of things. I agree with you that if we can package Sheary, Hunwick and Jarry or DeSmith for a top 4 dman for sure! But I don't think that will be enough to get a top 4 Dman. It will mean parting with Sprong or Maatta. Sheary & Hunwick for the Pens would be a cap dump. Hunwick for sure. Sheary would need the right centre for him to be a top 6 winger if not he is a bottom 6 guy for sure.

2nd thing. I wouldn't give Kunitz more than $1M to come back for 1 year. If he wants to come back to play in Pitt he will help us with our cap situation and take a contract worth less than $1M.

last thing. With your lines I'm not sure if you set them up this way or if you just left them. But Hornqvist needs to stay with Crosby. Crosby needs someone that can create traffic in front of the net. Also Kessel and Malkin need to play together. As much as they argue on the bench they work very well together. Put a guy like Rust on that line with them and they are a strong line. Sprong should be with Brassard. Brassard is more defensive minded and Sprong I feel is still weak defensively.

subtract 200k from kunitz, subtract like 500k from Oleksiak, maybe 200k from jarry. That saves 1 million but still means being a million over the cap. Which is the amount they overpaid rust by. Rutherford really better know what he is doing, that overpayment screws up a lot of plans.

The Penguins' goaltending tandem should be Matt Murray and Tristan Jarry. Unless a better secondary goaltender becomes available, Jarry will remain and DeSmith will stay in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Jarry could be moved if salary cap space is needed for 2019-2020.

I think as long as Jarry is signed on a one way deal he will take a little bit less than $1 million, because he still doesn't have that much bargaining power to demand much more.
