GMJR just dumped cap space all over Buffalo and you think you are going to get a number 1 defense man in dumo from him for 1 year of patches and scraps?

Brassard and a 2nd for Patches is a fair deal. The guy was a top line centre in Ottawa and is only 3rd line in Pittsburgh because Crosby and Malkin. Not a bad idea to trade Patches for Brassard but it's not going to be a deal that gets you the rest of that package.

You'll also need a lot more to get ROR out of Buffalo. Especially after July 1, since Buffalo will have had to pay the bonus and would want a bigger return since they paid the money to keep him.

Pens could go for JVR on free agency. with hagelin out of the roster. Patches would agree to stay with pens if he has a similar contract to Phil Kessel.

I disagree about needing more for O'Reilly. Did you see the report for the 3 way trade that almost happened? It would've been NYI 1st for O'Reilly, unless there were other unknowns in the deal.

Looking at this trade the habs give up a former 1st with top 6 potential in Scherbak, a potential starter in Lindgren, Hagelin with retained salary, they take Moulson's awful contract, they give up a 1st (which could range anywhere from 1st overall to 31st) and also a 4th. That is way too much for O'Reilly.

The first you gave up was from Pittsburgh which you wouldn't have because that Pittsburgh trade is horribly 1 sided.

I gotcha didnt notice that, yea wouldn't be a good first as Pittsburgh should be in the playoffs. Still I think it's a big price for O'Reilly, but I dont think this trade happens because both trades don't make any sense for anyone

I wouldn't go that far, I think it makes sense to send Patches to Pittsburgh but I doubt you'll get that haul. Brassard and Patches have comparable value, (Brassard being a centre increases his value) so if you built a deal around him, you'd maybe get Brassard and a 2nd for patches or something like that. Possibly even more. I imagine though that Pittsburgh keeps Brassard, he's the best 3rd line centre in hockey currently. (Until TO signs Tavares, then Kadri will be the best 3rd line centre in hockey. smile )

Patches isn't as good as Kessel. Patches is a legit top line LW but he needs decent linemates. Kessel could score with Bozak as his centre. Brassard isn't as good as Patches but his value is greater due to the depth at centre he provides. Centre and Defence depth = Cups.
