Description
I overpaid both Dumba and Zucker to prove this point.

No buyouts, no cap dumps, no stupicd cheap UFA signings.

They only run one pressbox guy for most of the season.

As boring as it sounds, this is probably what the wild are gonna end up doing this offseason as making a trade just for the sake of making a trade is always a bad idea. Reports are saying they are gonna sign Greg Pateryn, but with Zucker and Dumba not getting that much money, they'll still have the cap for Pateryn.

Fair enough, I just like brodin and he’s been linked to being on BOS radar at times. And I knew you guys were somewhat limited on space so I was just kicking tires

Tyler Ennis tho, what’s his value at on the trade market?

I don't mind signing Pateryn (depending on the money/term of course), but I'd rather see it spent on a middle-6 C/RW. I've lost a little faith in Russo rumors lately. He's speculating a lot more on his shows now that he's with the Athletic than when he was with the Strib, and the new GM doesn't tell him squat. He needs clickbait to get people to read and subscribe or listen to him talk.

Tavares stalled out the trade market for FWDs and EK did the same for d-men. It might be a backwards year where it's sign the UFAs and then make the trades; instead of making the trades, then round out the roster with UFAs.

Ennis is negative value, just how much is hard to gauge with how dead this off-season has been for trades/capdumps. Unless the cap is absolutely needed for something, they are probably better off just eating the last year of his deal than devaluing their other players right now.

The Chi Bickell dump from a couple of years ago is probably a fair estimate for Ennis.

Fair enough, even with overpaying Zucker and Dumba, the team will be tight up against it. Will they not be cap compliant? Of course not, they'll fit under but they won't be in a good situation. Under the above assumption, if a couple players get hurt but not bad enough to go on LTIR, they'll have to play down a player....

Now given that Zucker and Dumba shouldn't be getting 7M, the wild should be fine and stay a couple M under the cap but that really limits their ability to do something if they choose to. That's not an ideal situation to be in. They have options to move guys to create some extra space though so that shouldn't be a problem either but a smart GM won;t wait until his back is up against it to try and make a move. That is when they get fleeced. If Im the GM I'm making some deals while I still have good leverage. Not when its half way through the year and I have 1M to maneuver with.

I'm not too worried about that. It's when the cap games begin with 1 day call-ups for games then sent back down the next day begin. It hurts the TDL cap, but as long as there is some money built up then they can go over the cap for a little bit and be okay. I'd like to have around $1m as a cushion to cover bonuses and callups.

I don't think they have much leverage as it is now:
-Nino and Coyle are coming off of injured/bad years
-They don't have the best player at any position currently on the market
-New GM without a history or any built up favors
-MNC/NTC to try and work around left by the old GM

Yup fair enough. my point only was to say yes they technically can fit under the cap so that isn't worry as you've shown above but they are also not exactly in a comfortable position either. Being that close to the cap makes everything else a little harder to do.
