Not necessarily. NYI are offering $11M x 8 years. Dallas can offer him $11 x 7 years and he actually makes more money in Dallas than he does in New York, because of the fact that Texas has no state income tax. $10.5M over 7 years is actually very close to what he’d make with the Islanders.

Dallas has already said they have no intention to buyout Spezza. If Spezza isn’t on the opening night roster, it’ll be because of a trade.
