Why sign Stempniak? Give the youngsters a chance. You know Kunitz and Stempniak are old. See who can play out of the young kids...

You have to pay sometimes to get a player who may want to go to a more desirable location. It is a one year deal, no long term ramifications for overpaying.

Sabres locker room needs some vets who have been there, done that to change the culture imo.

Also Bots believes in using the farm system. If these guys prove to be too slow or old guys who perform in the AHL can come up as the season progresses. Happened all the time in PIT.

He seems to be shooting for the 2020-2025 window. Let Stat/Dahlin grow, rid the team of Murray's mistakes, and build a farm system full of guys who can come in and contribute on the cheap.

Who are the Sabres bidding against for 38 and 35 year old players? If the goal is 2020, find out who can't play in the NHL.

Kunitz has a number of teams on him. Stepniak gets a Pouliot type deal. I understand the criticism but I would rather have the young guys playing important minutes in Rochester and Mittlestat and Dahlin be surrounded by pros pros.
