This is actually a really good idea in theory. Whether the Rangers would actually do it, I'm not sure, but using the potential 2019 1st as leverage is a solid maneuver.

Tyler Johnson's full no trade clause kicked in July 1st. He's not going anywhere he doesn't want, especially to Ottawa - sorry!

Especially knowing that he'll make less money living and being taxed in Canada. Tyler Johnson's actual contract - if you equate it to other teams who have state taxes - is actually 6.4 million AAV

Could always substitute Johnson with one of Point/Gourde/Palat

Ottawa needs centres, desperately, and if Steve Yzerman lets go Braden Point he'll regret that trade for the rest of his life. He's projected to be the next Patrice Bergeron, and will be a top-3 two-way centre in the league in the next few years.

If he does get one of Johnson/Palat/Killorn to waive their NTC, then surely its possible.
I don't think trading Point is worth it but even having Karlsson for one season would be absolutely lucrative
